The Hatsan Escort PS Auto addresses that gap with a purpose-built left-hand receiver, not a mirrored stock slapped on a right-handed action. That distinction matters because the ejection port, bolt handle, and controls are all configured for southpaw operation, so spent shells go where they should instead of flying past your cheek. The 20 gauge configuration with a 3-inch magnum chamber and 28-inch barrel is a versatile setup suited to upland bird hunting, sporting clays, and waterfowl. The barrel itself is built from nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel with a hard chrome-plated bore and exterior black chrome finish, making it resistant to corrosion and easy to clean after a rough day in the field.
The heart of the PS is Hatsan's SMART Valve Piston system. It's a self-regulating gas piston that automatically adjusts to the load being fired, cycling reliably across 2 3/4-inch and 3-inch shells from light 7/8 oz loads all the way up to 2 oz magnums. What that means in practice is you can mix light target loads and heavier hunting loads in the same tube magazine and the gun keeps running. The FAST Loading System is another nice touch, combining the carrier latch release and bolt release into a single control that speeds up loading without having to break your shooting position. The alloy receiver features an 11mm groove for optics mounting if you plan to run a red dot or scope for slug work. A magazine cut-off system also lets you swap the chambered round without cycling the magazine, which is a handy feature in the field.
The synthetic stock and forend are checkered for grip and come with four stock shims for adjusting drop and cast, so you can dial in a fit without a trip to a gunsmith. The TrioPad rubber butt pad helps tame felt recoil and includes spacers to extend length of pull as needed. Mounted sling studs are already in place, a detail some manufacturers skip at this price point. The 4+1 tube magazine can be reduced to 2+1 with the included migratory plug for waterfowl season. The Escort PS Auto Left Hand is built with a dedicated left-handed receiver, not simply a stock swap. That means the ejection port, bolt handle, and operating controls are all configured for left-hand shooters. Spent cases eject to the right, away from a left-handed shooter's face, which is the key difference between a true left-hand gun and a cosmetic workaround.
The SMART Valve Piston is a self-regulating gas system designed to cycle 2 3/4-inch and 3-inch shells ranging from 7/8 oz light target loads up to 2 oz magnum loads. Because it adjusts automatically to the pressure of each shell, you can mix different load weights in the same magazine without manually adjusting a gas valve. As with any gas-operated shotgun, keeping the gas system clean is the best way to maintain reliable cycling across that whole range.
Yes. All five included choke tubes are rated for use with steel shot. When shooting steel, you should use no tighter than a Modified choke, which is standard practice with any shotgun, and the Escort PS comes with the appropriate choke options to cover waterfowl hunting scenarios.
