There's a lot to like about a workhorse gas gun that doesn't fuss over what you feed it. The Escort PS runs on Hatsan's SMART Valve piston system, which self-regulates to cycle everything from light 7/8 oz field loads up to stout 2 oz, 3 inch magnum shells without adjustment. That kind of flexibility matters when you're shooting cheap practice loads on Saturday and heavy waterfowl shells the next morning. The 28 inch barrel is chrome-plated Ni-Cr-Mo steel, proof tested and built to shrug off moisture and corrosion, with a ventilated rib and a red fiber optic front sight that picks up light fast when a bird flushes.
The full Mossy Oak Bottomland treatment covers the stock, forend, receiver, and barrel, so there's no shiny metal to flag you in the blind or the turkey woods. The synthetic stock and forend are checkered at the grip points for a solid hold with wet or gloved hands, and a rubber recoil pad takes the sting out of long sessions with magnum loads. Stock shims let you tweak drop and cast so the gun points where you look, which is a feature you don't always find at this end of the market.
Hatsan's FAST loading system is a genuinely handy touch. The loading switch doubles as the carrier latch release and the bolt release, so you can top off the tube with one hand without breaking your position. The magazine holds 4+1, drops to 2+1 with the included migratory plug, and there's a magazine cut-off for single feeding a different shell when the situation calls for it. Five choke tubes come in the box, Full through Cylinder, covering everything from long crossing shots to close flushes over dogs.
At around 7 pounds with a 48 inch overall length, the PS carries well over a long walk and swings smoothly on birds. The grooved aluminum receiver keeps weight down and gives you a mounting option if you want an optic for turkey season. It's a versatile, no-drama autoloader that covers a whole lot of hunting for the money.
Yes, that's one of its strong suits. The SMART Valve gas piston self-regulates, so it cycles loads from 7/8 oz light shells all the way up to 2 oz, 3 inch magnums without any adjustments on your end. Like most gas guns, give it a good cleaning and a couple boxes of shells to break in, and it settles into a steady rhythm.
The included multi-choke system is rated for steel shot, which makes this a solid waterfowl option. As with any shotgun, avoid running steel through the Full choke at high volume; Modified or Improved Cylinder patterns steel very well for ducks and geese.
Yes. The aluminum receiver has a machined groove on top, so you can clamp on a compatible mount for a red dot, which is a popular setup for turkey hunting. The included fiber optic front sight works great on its own for wingshooting.
It does. The magazine tube holds 4+1, and the included migratory plug limits it to 2+1 for duck and goose hunting. There's also a magazine cut-off feature that lets you swap in a single different shell without emptying the tube.
