Turkey guns don't need to be complicated. They need to hide well, point fast, and throw a tight pattern where you're looking. The Hatsan Escort Field Hunter Turkey checks all three boxes with a 24 inch barrel, a 3 inch magnum chamber, and full Mossy Oak Bottomland camo covering the synthetic stock and fore-end. At around 6.9 pounds, it carries easily on those long walks between gobbles, and the pump action cycles everything from light 2-3/4 inch field loads to heavy 3 inch turkey shells without a fuss.
This is where the Field Hunter separates itself from bare-bones budget pumps. You get a windage adjustable red fiber optic front sight paired with a windage and elevation adjustable green fiber optic rear, which means you can dial your pattern to point of aim instead of just hoping the bead is close. The aircraft alloy receiver also wears a 5 inch cantilever Weaver-style rail, so mounting a red dot or turkey scope takes minutes, not a trip to the gunsmith.
Hatsan builds the barrel from chromium, nickel, molybdenum steel with a black chrome finish that shrugs off the dew, rain, and mud that come standard with spring hunting. The checkered synthetic furniture gives you a solid grip with wet gloves, a rubber recoil pad takes the sting out of magnum turkey loads, and sling studs come installed so you can pack it hands-free.
Three choke tubes ship in the box: an extended turkey choke for tight patterns on longbeards, plus improved modified and full tubes that let this gun pull double duty on squirrels, predators, or an afternoon of clays. With 4+1 capacity, a crossbolt safety right where your trigger finger expects it, and a 44 inch overall length that maneuvers well in a blind, this is a lot of purpose-built shotgun for the money.
Yes, and that's one of its best features. The receiver comes with a 5 inch cantilever Weaver-style rail already installed, so most red dots and shotgun scopes bolt right on. If you'd rather stick with irons, the fiber optic front and rear sights are adjustable and work great on their own.
It has a 3 inch magnum chamber and runs both 2-3/4 inch and 3 inch shells. Being a pump gun, it will cycle light field loads just as reliably as heavy magnum turkey loads, since you're doing the work instead of relying on gas pressure. That makes it easy to practice cheap and hunt with the good stuff.
Turkey is its specialty, but the included improved modified and full chokes open it up for predators, small game, and even some clays practice. The 24 inch barrel keeps it quick in a blind while still swinging well enough for other work. Think of it as a turkey gun first with plenty of off-season usefulness.
It comes in around 6.9 pounds thanks to the aircraft alloy receiver, which is light for a full-size 12 gauge pump. Sling studs are already installed, so adding a sling for long walks is simple. The rubber recoil pad helps keep those stout 3 inch turkey loads manageable at the shoulder.
