Ergo built this one around their SUREGRIP overmolded rubber, but bumped the texture depth to nearly double that of their original design. The result is a grip surface that bites into your palm and fingers so the rifle stays planted through recoil, transitions, and long strings of fire. It's the same rubber Ergo is known for, so it shrugs off oils, solvents, and grime that would leave a slicker grip feeling greasy.
The magic here is that deep, aggressive texture paired with soft overmolded rubber. Instead of sharp checkering that eats up your bare hand, you get a pattern that grabs hard but stays comfortable over a full range day. The ergonomically shaped finger grooves guide your hand into the same spot every time, which helps with consistency, and the integral rear extension supports the web of your hand for better leverage and control. Whether you're running gloves, sweating it out in summer heat, or dealing with rain and mud, the traction stays put.
The X-Grip drops onto standard AR-pattern lowers, covering AR-15 and AR-10 platforms chambered in the usual .223/5.56 and .308 builds. Ergo includes their proprietary Gapper in the box, which fills that annoying void between the trigger guard and the grip. If you've ever felt the standard trigger guard bite into your middle knuckle, you know exactly why that little piece matters. It cushions the knuckle, keeps debris out, and gives the whole setup a cleaner, finished look.
Installation is a straightforward job you can knock out at the bench. The grip ships with its own hardware pack, including the screw and washers, and swaps on with a single mounting bolt and an Allen wrench. Just mind the safety detent and its spring when you pull the old grip off, and install the Gapper with the grip removed before you tighten everything back down. A few minutes of work and you've got a serious upgrade in feel and control.
It's designed for AR-pattern lowers, covering both AR-15 and AR-10 rifles in the common .223/5.56 and .308 builds. As long as your lower accepts a standard AR pistol grip, this will bolt right on. That includes most chassis systems built around AR grip geometry.
The X-Grip Heavy Texture uses nearly double the texture depth of Ergo's original SUREGRIP pattern. The Gapper is a small rubber piece that fills the void between the trigger guard and the grip on AR rifles. If you run a standard mil-spec trigger guard, that gap tends to bite into your middle knuckle under recoil, and the Gapper cushions it while keeping debris out. It's included in the box, so you can decide whether your setup needs it.
Not at all. It swaps on with a single mounting screw and an Allen wrench using the included hardware, so no gunsmithing is required. Just be careful not to lose the safety detent and spring when you remove your old grip, and install the Gapper while the grip is off before you snug everything back down.
