Description
The end plate is one of the easiest parts on an AR to overlook, yet it quietly holds your takedown pin detent and spring in place and gives you something to stake your castle nut against. Forward Controls Design took that humble hunk of metal and turned it into one of the most capable QD sling adapters you can bolt onto a carbine. The ESF-H is a drop-in replacement for the AR platform in both 223 and 308 spec, machined from 4140 steel and finished in a durable black DLC coating that shrugs off wear and holds up over the long haul.
What Sets the ESF-H End Plate Apart
This plate carries three quick detach sling swivel sockets: one on each side and one facing rearward. The two side sockets are rotation limited, which keeps your sling from twisting up on you during a hard day of running the gun. The centrally located rear socket spins freely, so shoulder-to-shoulder transitions stay smooth and drama-free. At roughly 1.1 ounces, it is not a featherweight part, and that is by design. The heavier 4140 steel construction is built to outlast the 7075 aluminum receiver it mounts to.
Fitting the ESF-H to Your Build
When paired with a castle nut, the ESF-H lets retractable carbine stocks fully collapse. SOPMOD and B5 Systems Bravo stocks will close all the way even with a rear-facing QD swivel installed, while most other carbine stocks will need to sit on the second position when a rear swivel is in place. One thing worth knowing before you wrench on it: the side socket housings can partially cover a castle nut wrench notch, so a two-lug wrench like the AR Multitasker or FCD's own JCW makes torquing a breeze. The receiver extension indexing tab can also run tight on some buffer tubes, which is a good sign of a snug, purposeful fit.
Forward Controls Design has a reputation for putting function ahead of flash, and the ESF-H is a perfect example. It just works, it looks sharp on a build, and it pairs nicely with an FCD castle nut if you want the matched set. Note that a castle nut is not included.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the ESF-H end plate come with a castle nut?
No, the ESF-H ships as the end plate only and does not include a castle nut. You will reuse your existing castle nut or pair it with a separate one. Many builders match it with FCD's own castle nut for a coordinated look and staking pattern.
Will my stock still fully collapse with the ESF-H installed?
SOPMOD and B5 Systems Bravo stocks will collapse all the way even with a rear-facing QD swivel installed. Most other carbine stocks will need to close on the second position when a rear swivel is present. The plate is specifically designed to work with stakable castle nuts and collapsing stocks.
Do I need a special wrench to install the ESF-H?
The side socket housings can partially block one of the three lugs on a standard castle nut wrench. A two-lug wrench such as the AR Multitasker or FCD's JCW lets you torque the castle nut properly without fighting the sockets. It is a small detail, but it makes the install much smoother.
Will the ESF-H fit both AR-15 and AR-10 rifles?
Yes, it is a drop-in end plate replacement for the AR platform in both 223 and 308 spec. Keep in mind the receiver extension indexing tab can be a tight fit on some buffer tubes, which is normal for this snug, purpose-built design.
