The Browning Hi-Power is one of the most beloved service pistols ever made, and when Browning stopped production, a lot of folks figured that was the end of an affordable classic. Girsan stepped in with the MCP35, a faithful take on the P35 pattern built with modern manufacturing in Turkey and imported by EAA. This version wears a flat dark earth finish over the steel frame and slide, paired with checkered black polymer grips that give it a look somewhere between old-school service pistol and modern field gun.
This is an all-steel, single action 9mm, and that combination is exactly why the Hi-Power design has stuck around for nearly a century. The roughly 32 ounces of steel soak up recoil, so the short recoil action cycles smooth and gets you back on the sights quickly. The slim trigger has a short reset, the serrated ring hammer gives your thumb solid purchase when cocking, and the controls include an ambidextrous thumb safety, external extractor, and magazine disconnect, staying true to the original pattern. Capacity is 15+1 from a staggered column magazine, a nice bump over the 13 rounds the old military guns carried.
Up top you get a dovetailed front sight and a windage drift adjustable rear, so you can dial in your point of impact and swap sights down the road if you want. The 4.87 inch barrel gives you a full sight radius, and owners consistently report these pistols running well with everything from 115 grain range ammo to 124 grain hollow points.
Plenty of pistols will punch paper, but few have the heritage and hand feel of the P35 platform. The MCP35 lets you own that experience without hunting down a collectible, and the FDE finish sets it apart from the usual blued examples. It ships with one 15-round magazine, and spares are easy to come by since it follows the Hi-Power pattern.
It follows the classic P35 pattern very closely, including the single action trigger, ring hammer, magazine disconnect, and overall dimensions. Most Hi-Power pattern magazines and many aftermarket parts like grips and sights will fit, though minor fitting can be needed on some parts. It is one of the most faithful and affordable ways to get into the platform.
Yes, like the original Hi-Power design, this pistol includes a magazine disconnect, meaning it will not fire without a magazine inserted. It also carries an ambidextrous thumb safety and an external extractor. Some owners remove the disconnect to lighten the trigger, but it comes installed from the factory.
It ships with one 15-round staggered column magazine, and since it is built on the Hi-Power pattern, most standard Hi-Power style magazines from makers like Mec-Gar will run in it. That makes finding spares simple and affordable. The 15-round capacity is a step up from the original 13-round military mags.
No, this model keeps the traditional setup with a dovetailed front sight and a windage drift adjustable rear. If you want a red dot, Girsan offers the MC P35 OPS variant with an optic cut slide. For iron sight fans, the dovetails on this one make sight swaps straightforward.
