The Browning Hi-Power has one of the most devoted followings in the firearms world, and for good reason. This isn't just a lookalike. The MCP35 is built from 4140 chrome-moly steel throughout the frame and slide, machined and heat-treated for real durability. The slide is milled from cold-drawn bar stock, and the frame is fully machined from a forging. The only polymer you'll find on this gun is in the checkered grip panels. It ships with a 15-round flush-fit magazine produced by Mec-Gar of Italy, which is genuinely one of the better magazine makers in the business and bumps capacity up two rounds from what the original Hi-Power shipped with. The slim trigger gives you a short, predictable reset, and the serrated ring hammer makes for a positive, secure cock. The windage drift-adjustable rear sight sits in a standard BHP dovetail, so there's a wide world of aftermarket sights compatible with this gun if you ever want to upgrade.
The ambidextrous manual safety is frame-mounted and easy to reach without shifting your grip, which is exactly what you want on a single-action pistol. External controls also include an external extractor and a magazine disconnect safety. The serrated slide makes for a solid purchase when running the gun. Field stripping follows the classic BHP method: lock the slide back on an empty chamber and remove the slide catch lever. Yes, the MCP35 uses a standard BHP dovetail and accepts Hi-Power pattern magazines from Mec-Gar, vintage Belgian mags, and most other Hi-Power compatible magazines. Aftermarket grip panels made for the Hi-Power generally fit as well, opening up a wide range of customization options. Slide and barrel parts are not interchangeable with all variants, so check compatibility before swapping those.
The magazine disconnect safety is a design feature inherited from the Browning Hi-Power that prevents the pistol from firing unless a magazine is fully seated in the magazine well. It's a safety measure that's built into the original Hi-Power design. Some owners choose to have a gunsmith remove it, and there are tutorials and aftermarket parts available for that modification if you prefer the gun without it.
Both are full-size, steel-framed Hi-Power tributes chambered in 9mm with very similar dimensions and weight around 32 ounces unloaded.
