The Kitty Kat name goes back to the early days of DPMS, when their stubby little ARs earned a reputation as some of the most compact builds on the platform. This modern G9 version brings that idea into the pistol caliber world, pairing a 4 inch heavy profile barrel with a simple blowback 9mm action and a lower machined to feed from Glock pattern magazines. That last part matters more than people think. Glock mags are everywhere, they are affordable, and the included Magpul 27 rounder gives you plenty of capacity right out of the box.
The chrome moly vanadium barrel gets a black nitride treatment for corrosion resistance and long wear, with a 1 in 10 twist that stabilizes common 9mm loads just fine. The muzzle is threaded 1/2-28 and wears a solid aluminum flash can from the factory, which pushes blast and flash forward and away from you, a welcome touch on a barrel this short. If you would rather run a different muzzle device, the standard thread pitch makes swaps painless.
Both the slick side upper and the lower are machined from billet aluminum and finished in black hardcoat anodize, giving the Kitty Kat G9 a cleaner, more sculpted look than a basic forged gun. Inside, DPMS skipped the gritty mil-spec trigger and installed their Panther Fang flat trigger with a polished nickel boron finish, so you get a crisp, upgraded pull without spending extra on parts. A 5 inch lightweight M-LOK handguard keeps the front end trim while leaving room for a light or hand stop, and the Picatinny top rail is ready for whatever optic you prefer.
This is the kind of gun that earns a permanent spot in the range bag. It is small, quick handling, and cheap to feed, which makes it a natural for close range steel, truck duty, or just an afternoon of relaxed plinking. The 6 position carbine buffer tube with the DPMS CAR blade brace and custom OM grip keep the whole package light and maneuverable. Pistol caliber ARs are fun, and this one has more character than most.
The lower is purpose-built for Glock pattern 9mm magazines, and it ships with a Magpul 27 rounder in the box. That means you can feed it with some of the most common and affordable mags on the market, from compact 15 rounders up to 33 round sticks. No adapter blocks or oddball proprietary mags to hunt down.
The 4 inch barrel is threaded 1/2-28, which is the standard pitch for most 9mm suppressors and muzzle devices. Just spin off the included flash can and thread on your can. With a blowback 9mm action and a short barrel, it makes a fun host once you have your suppressor sorted.
The Kitty Kat G9 runs on simple blowback operation, so there is no gas system to tune at all. The nitride treated 8620 steel bolt carrier group is built specifically for 9mm and pairs with a standard carbine buffer tube. Blowback guns like this tend to be reliable across a wide range of ammo, from light range loads to heavier defensive stuff.
No, and that is one of the nicer surprises on this gun. DPMS installs their Panther Fang flat trigger with a polished nickel boron finish from the factory, which gives a cleaner, smoother pull than the usual mil-spec fire control group. For most folks it removes the need for an aftermarket trigger swap entirely.
