The DPMS Kitty Kat is one of those uppers that does a lot in a small package. It's built around a 7.5-inch chrome-moly vanadium steel barrel chambered in .300 AAC Blackout, finished in black nitride for corrosion resistance and an easy wipe-down after a range day. The heavy profile barrel runs a 1:7 twist, an M4 barrel extension, and a pistol-length gas system, which is the sweet spot for cycling that short of a 300 BLK barrel with both supersonic and subsonic loads.
Up front you get a 4-inch knurled tube free-float handguard, a .750 R-marked front sight gas block, and an A2 flash hider on the threaded muzzle. That short handguard keeps the whole thing lean and quick-handling, and the barrel comes threaded if you want to swap in a different muzzle device down the road. The .300 Blackout cartridge is right at home here, giving you real 30-caliber punch out of a stubby barrel and playing nicely with a can if suppressed shooting is your thing.
The receiver is a forged 7075-T6 C7 carry-handle upper, machined to mil-spec and hard-coat anodized in black. It ships with the forward assist, dust cover, and an A1 rear sight aperture already in place, so the carry handle gives you usable iron sights right out of the gate. Inside, the bolt carrier group is the real deal: a shot-peened Carpenter 158 steel bolt, a properly staked gas key fastened with Grade 8 screws to USGI spec, and an 8620 steel full-auto profile carrier that's chrome lined and phosphate coated.
This is a complete upper, so it drops right onto a standard AR-15 lower and you're in business. It makes a great foundation for a compact 300 Blackout pistol or SBR build when you want the retro carry-handle look with modern chambering.
This is a fully complete upper. It comes assembled with the barrel, handguard, front sight gas block, A2 flash hider, and a full bolt carrier group already installed. You just need a lower to have a working setup, since a charging handle is the only piece you may need to add depending on your parts.
Yes. It's built on a forged 7075-T6 mil-spec upper, so it mates up with any standard AR-15 lower receiver. Since it's chambered in .300 Blackout, you'll want to run 300 BLK magazines and ammo, though standard 5.56 mags will feed the rounds just fine.
The barrel is threaded and wears an A2 flash hider from the factory, so you can swap that out for a suppressor mount or thread a can directly onto compatible threads. The short barrel and pistol-length gas system make .300 Blackout a natural fit for suppressed shooting, especially with subsonic loads.
The .300 Blackout cartridge was designed to perform well out of short barrels, so a 7.5-inch length still delivers strong ballistics without the velocity loss you'd see from a short 5.56 barrel. The 1:7 twist stabilizes both lighter supersonic and heavier subsonic bullets, giving you plenty of flexibility for range work or a compact build.
