This DPMS Lower Parts Kit covers the small stuff that turns a stripped AR-15 lower into a working one, with the fire control group, grip, and stock left out on purpose. That layout is popular with folks running an upgraded trigger and grip, since you are not paying for parts you plan to swap out anyway. It is also a smart thing to keep in the range bag or on the bench, because those tiny detents and springs have a way of launching across the shop floor right when you need them.
The kit is organized into the four little assemblies every builder deals with. You get the takedown and pivot pin group with both pins, two takedown springs, and two detents. The bolt catch assembly brings the bolt catch, its detent and spring, and the roll pin. Rounding it out is the magazine catch assembly with catch, button, and spring, plus the safety selector, selector detent, and selector spring. DPMS also throws in an enhanced polymer trigger guard along with its roll pin, a set screw, and a hex key to set it.
DPMS Panther Arms has been in the AR game a long time, and their parts run to mil-spec dimensions so they drop into standard stripped lowers without drama. Steel components with a black oxide style finish handle the wear points, and the polymer trigger guard shaves a little weight while holding up to real use. If you already have a trigger, grip, and stock picked out, this is the tidy package that fills in all the in-between pieces.
A quick heads up worth repeating: this is a no-FCG kit, so you will still need a hammer, trigger, disconnector, grip, and buffer tube assembly to complete the build. Match those to your taste and you are set.
FCG stands for fire control group, which is the hammer, trigger, disconnector, and their pins and springs. This kit leaves those out on purpose so you can install the trigger of your choice. It also does not include a grip or stock, which are two of the most commonly upgraded pieces.
You will still need a complete fire control group, a pistol grip, and a buffer tube assembly with a stock or brace. Once you add those to the parts in this DPMS kit, your stripped lower is ready to go. Many builders like this route because it keeps them from paying for a basic trigger and grip they would just replace.
It is built to mil-spec dimensions, so it fits standard stripped AR-15 lowers without issue. As with any lower parts kit, some proprietary or non-standard receivers may need specific components, so it is worth checking your receiver's requirements before you start. For the vast majority of mil-spec lowers, everything drops right in.
It is. Detents, springs, and small pins are the parts most likely to go flying during a takedown or wander off during cleaning, and having a full set ready saves a trip to the store. Keeping one in your kit means an 'oops' moment does not sideline your rifle.
