Diamondback treated the Obsidian line as their upgraded tier, so the ambidextrous safety and mag release from Battle Arms Development, the enhanced bolt catch, and the Breek Arms WARHAMMER Mod2 ambi charging handle are already installed. That charging handle has a raised rear shelf and relief cuts that help keep gas out of your face if you run this thing suppressed, which is a nice touch on a pistol clearly built with a can in mind.
The heart of the gun is an 11.5-inch medium-contour barrel machined from 4150 CrMoV steel with a black nitride finish and a 1:8 right-hand twist, which handles a wide spread of bullet weights without fuss. A carbine-length direct impingement gas system keeps cycling smooth and consistent at this barrel length, and the shot-peened, magnetic particle inspected 8620 bolt carrier is standard mil-spec fare that just works. The 1/2×28 threaded muzzle wears Diamondback's Obsidian brake, which vents gas laterally to keep the muzzle flat during quick strings. Range reports back this up, with mild recoil and reliable cycling across multiple ammo brands.
Up front you get an 11-inch free float M-LOK handguard with an anti-rotation design, a full-length Picatinny top rail, and integrated QD sling sockets. That leaves room for a light, a hand stop, and whatever optic you like, since the flattop upper ships without sights. The SB Tactical SBA5 brace and Magpul MOE K2 grip round out the furniture, and both receivers are forged 7075-T6 aluminum with a hardcoat anodized finish. At roughly 6.2 pounds, it stays balanced rather than nose-heavy, which matters more on a short gun than most spec sheets let on.
Every DB15 is built at Diamondback's facility in Cocoa, Florida, and a 30-round Magpul Gen M3 PMAG comes in the box. For home setups, truck duty, or fast-paced range days, this is a short 5.56 that arrives already sorted.
No, it ships with a bare flattop upper and no iron sights. The full-length Picatinny rail on the receiver and handguard gives you plenty of room for a red dot, LPVO, or flip-up sights. Plan on adding your preferred sighting setup before your first range trip.
It is well set up for it. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, the standard pattern for 5.56 cans, so the factory brake swaps off easily. The included Breek Arms WARHAMMER Mod2 charging handle also has a raised rear shelf and relief cuts designed to cut down on gas blowback when running suppressed.
Yes. The chamber is cut for 5.56 NATO, which safely handles both 5.56 and .223 Remington ammunition. The 1:8 twist barrel stabilizes a wide range of bullet weights, so most common 55 to 77 grain loads will shoot well.
The Obsidian series comes with a Battle Arms Development ambidextrous safety selector and magazine release, plus an enhanced bolt catch that makes locking and dropping the bolt easier from either side. The charging handle is ambidextrous as well. Left-handed users get a genuinely workable setup without buying extra parts.
