The name Melik means king, and Derya Arms is not shy about it. This is a full-size, metal-framed 9mm built around a time-tested double/single action design that traces its DNA back to the Beretta 92 platform. The two-tone version stands out immediately: a silver anodized aluminum frame machined from a solid block of 7075 aluminum pairs with a black Melonite-finished 4140 steel slide for a combination that looks sharp and holds up to sustained use without any Cerakote buildup or dimensional creep.
The 4.9-inch barrel gives the Melik a full-size presence and a longer sight radius that pays dividends when you are trying to shoot accurately at distance. The action is double/single: your first shot breaks in DA with a longer, heavier pull, and every shot after that is crisp single action. The slide-mounted decocker/safety is ambidextrous, so left-handed shooters are not left out. Anyone who came up on striker-fired pistols will want to spend some range time getting comfortable with the DA/SA transition, but those who already appreciate that style of shooting will feel right at home.
The dark walnut grips are a genuine highlight. They give the Melik a classic, refined look that sets it apart from the sea of black polymer guns, and they fill the hand well with textured front and rear straps on the frame adding to overall control. The serrated Melonite slide offers a solid grip surface for press-checks and administrative handling.
At 15+1 in 9mm, capacity is more than adequate for range work or home defense purposes, and the gun has a track record among owners of running reliably out of the box. The Melik is a hammer-fired pistol. The first shot fires in double action, meaning the trigger pull is longer and heavier as it both cocks and releases the hammer. Every subsequent shot fires in single action with a shorter, lighter break. Using the decocker drops the hammer safely without firing, returning the gun to the double action state for the next trigger pull. Those coming from striker-fired guns will want to practice the transition, but it becomes second nature fairly quickly.
The Melik shares a similar magazine well geometry with the Beretta 92, and many owners report that Beretta 92 magazines will fit and feed reliably. That said, Derya uses ACT MAG magazines and the two guns are not officially cross-compatible at the parts level. It is worth testing any third-party magazines before relying on them.
The two-tone model pairs a silver anodized aluminum frame with a black Melonite steel slide, giving it a classic, visually distinctive look compared to the all-black version. The dark walnut grips on the two-tone variant also add a premium aesthetic touch. Functionally the pistols are identical; the two-tone simply has more visual character.
Melonite is a ferritic nitrocarburizing process that actually penetrates and hardens the steel surface rather than sitting on top of it like a coating. It is extremely corrosion-resistant and does not affect part dimensions the way a sprayed-on finish can. For a range gun that will see regular use, it is a very practical and long-lasting choice.
The Melik is well-suited to home defense use given its full-size frame, 15+1 capacity, and DA/SA hammer-fired operation with a decocker for safe storage with a round chambered. The 4.9-inch barrel helps with accuracy and puts good muzzle velocity behind 9mm defensive ammunition. The main consideration is that it is a full-size pistol, so it is best thought of as a home defense or range gun rather than an everyday carry option.
The Melik is manufactured in Türkiye by Derya Arms. The TR suffix on the part number confirms Turkish production. Derya handles all Melonite finishing in-house at their Turkish facility, and the frames are CNC machined from solid blocks of 7075 aluminum.
