The Melik is Derya Arms' take on the full-size, metal-frame DA/SA pistol, and it brings a lot to the table for the money. Built around a double/single-action mechanism with a recoil-delayed locking block system, it fires with a longer, heavier pull on the first shot in double action, then transitions to a crisp, lighter single-action pull for every round that follows. That's a setup that rewards disciplined shooting and gives you a meaningful safety margin right out of the holster.
Materials on this pistol are a real strong point. The slide is forged 4140 steel finished in Melonite, which is a true metallurgical treatment, not a coating. It doesn't add to the slide's dimensions, won't peel, and holds up to corrosion and wear at a level you'd expect from a much pricier gun. The frame is CNC-machined from 7075 aluminum billet, keeping weight reasonable while still giving the pistol that solid, planted feel in hand that you just don't get from an all-polymer design. Black polymer grips round out the package.
The slide-mounted safety doubles as a decocker, so you can safely lower the hammer without a manual trigger press. It's an ambidextrous setup, which is a genuinely useful feature for left-handed shooters or anyone who just likes having options. The 4.9-inch barrel gives you a longer sight radius than most compact or mid-size pistols, which pays off at the range with tighter groups and a more natural point of aim. Fixed sights keep things simple and snag-free.
At 15+1 capacity, this version is well-suited for range work, home defense, and general-purpose ownership. It comes packaged with a hard case, user manual, cleaning rod, and gun brush so you're ready to go right out of the box. The first shot fires in double action, meaning a longer and heavier trigger pull that lowers and releases the hammer in one motion. Every round after that fires in single action with a shorter, lighter pull. It's a setup that a lot of experienced pistol shooters really appreciate, and the Melik's trigger has been noted as smooth and well-executed in both modes.
The slide-mounted lever serves as both a safety and a decocker. Pressing it down lowers the hammer safely without requiring a trigger pull, and in the down position the pistol is also on safe with the trigger disabled. It's an ambidextrous control, so both right- and left-handed shooters can operate it comfortably.
Melonite is a true metallurgical surface treatment, not a paint or a spray-on coating like Cerakote. It's applied through a controlled chemical process that actually alters the surface of the metal, making it extremely hard and corrosion-resistant. Because it doesn't add material on top of the steel, it doesn't change the slide's dimensions or affect the feel of the action.
The magazine wells are similar enough that Beretta 92-pattern magazines generally fit the Melik, which is good news since those magazines are widely available and affordable. However, internal parts between the two pistols are not interchangeable, so don't expect components like the slide or barrel to swap over.
It's a solid option for home defense. The full-size frame, 4.9-inch barrel, and 15+1 capacity give you good control and plenty of capacity, and the DA/SA trigger with decocker is a proven defensive setup. The main thing to note is that it's a full-size pistol, so it's better suited to a nightstand or range bag than concealed carry on a daily basis.
The Melik is manufactured at Derya's facility in Türkiye and imported into the United States. Derya Arms is distributed stateside through Lipsey's, one of the country's major firearms distributors. The "TR" at the end of the model number is Derya's own designation indicating Turkish manufacture.
