The Melik name translates to "king" in Turkish, and Derya Arms clearly had something to say with this one. This is a full-size, hammer-fired 9mm built around the same locking block operating system that made the Beretta 92 famous, finished in a head-turning two-tone combination of silver anodized aluminum frame and black melonite steel slide. It is the kind of pistol that earns a second look on the bench before you even put a round through it.
Under the hood, the construction is serious. The slide is forged 4140 steel with a melonite finish applied in-house at Derya's Turkish facility, which means it is a true surface treatment, not a coating that can chip or add to the dimensions. The frame is machined from 7075 aluminum billet, the same grade used in aerospace applications, and the barrel is 4140 steel that goes through heat treating, crack inspection, and precision drilling before it ships. The walnut grips feel natural in the hand and look genuinely handsome next to the two-tone finish.
The DA/SA trigger system works the way it is supposed to. The first shot in double action is longer and heavier, then the hammer stays cocked and every follow-up shot fires in the crisp single-action mode. The slide-mounted safety and decocker are fully ambidextrous, so lefties get the same experience as right-handed shooters. Reviewers who have put rounds through the Melik consistently note that the trigger feels better than expected for a pistol in this category, with soft recoil that makes extended range sessions genuinely enjoyable.
This 10+1 version ships with a single 10-round magazine and includes a hard case, cleaning rod, gun brush, and user manual so you are ready to go right out of the box. Beretta 92-pattern magazines are widely available and affordable if you want to stock up on spares. The Melik is backed by Derya's limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser.
It is heavily inspired by the Beretta 92 platform and shares the same locking block operating system and open-top slide design. However, Derya Arms is clear that internal parts are not interchangeable between the two firearms. Magazine wells are similar enough to accept Beretta 92-pattern magazines, which is a nice bonus since those are widely available and easy to find.
The Melik is hammer-fired with a double action/single action trigger. When you chamber a round and decock, the hammer lowers and the first shot fires in double action, which has a longer and heavier pull. Every subsequent shot fires in single action with a shorter, lighter pull. If you leave the decocker lever in the down position, the pistol also goes on safe with the trigger disabled, giving you an extra layer of security.
Melonite is a metal surface treatment, not a coating applied on top of the steel. It actually penetrates the surface of the metal, which means it does not add to the slide's dimensions and cannot chip, peel, or wear off the way a spray-on finish can. Derya applies this finish in-house at their Turkish facility, giving the slide solid corrosion resistance and a consistent black appearance that holds up over time.
The magazine wells are similar and Beretta 92-pattern magazines generally fit the Melik, which is great news since they are plentiful and reasonably priced. That said, the Melik officially uses ACT MAG magazines, so if you run into any feeding quirks with a third-party mag, that is the likely culprit. This 10+1 version ships with one 10-round magazine.
It can be, but there is a learning curve. DA/SA pistols with a decocker operate differently than a striker-fired gun with a consistent trigger pull. The first shot from the hammer-down position will feel noticeably heavier than subsequent single-action shots. If you put in the trigger time to learn the system, most people find the Melik very enjoyable to shoot with softer-feeling recoil than you might expect from a full-size 9mm.
Derya Arms backs the Melik with a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. The warranty is non-transferable, so it applies to the buyer and not to subsequent owners if the firearm is ever resold.
