Expect roughly a 1 to 3 dB drop at the muzzle compared to running the standard .30 cal opening. The bigger practical benefit is reduced first-round pop, since the smaller opening keeps more gas working inside the can. Flash signature also tends to improve.
You'll want Dead Air's front cap pin tool for a clean install and removal. The small pin tool (DA203) is the one suited to Sandman, Nomad, Wolverine, and Primal series caps. Once you have it, swaps only take a couple of minutes.
Yes, this cap is sized for both 5.56x45mm NATO and .223 Rem since they share the same bullet diameter. Just don't run anything larger than .22 caliber centerfire rounds through it, as the opening is sized specifically for that bore.
