Magnum Research took their most iconic pistol and packaged it the way a lot of owners have wanted for years: the Mark XIX in .50 Action Express with a second 6-inch barrel and magazine in .44 Magnum right in the same case. The .50 AE was designed with a rebated rim that matches the .44 Mag, so both calibers run on the same bolt. Swap the barrel, drop in the correct magazine, and you've changed calibers in well under a minute with no tools and no gunsmith.
Unlike just about every other semi-auto pistol on the market, the Desert Eagle runs a gas-operated action with a rotating bolt, closer in concept to a rifle than a typical handgun. That system, combined with a steel frame and slide and roughly 4.4 pounds of overall weight, soaks up recoil that would be brutal in a lighter platform. The single action trigger breaks at around 4 pounds, and combat-style fixed sights with a long 8.5-inch sight radius make it easier to shoot well than its reputation suggests. Both barrels wear a full-length Picatinny-style rail, so mounting a red dot or pistol scope for handgun hunting is simple.

Run the .44 Magnum barrel when you want cheaper, easier-to-find ammo for range days, then switch to .50 AE when you want the full experience or need serious energy for big game.
