There is a reason the DD5 V5 keeps coming up in conversations about serious semi-auto precision rifles. Daniel Defense took their large-frame platform and built it specifically around long-range cartridges, and the 6.5 Creedmoor version with the 20-inch barrel is the one made for stretching distance. With the right match ammo and a good optic, hits out to 1,000 meters and beyond are on the table, and you get follow-up shots a bolt gun simply cannot match.
The barrel does a lot of the heavy lifting here. It is cold hammer forged in-house from Daniel Defense proprietary steel, chrome lined, finished in heavy phosphate, and cut with a 1:8 twist that stabilizes the long, high-BC bullets the 6.5 Creedmoor is known for. The S2W profile keeps stiffness where you want it without turning the rifle into a boat anchor, and the whole package comes in around 8.9 pounds. Up front you get the Superior Suppression Device machined from 17-4 stainless on 5/8×24 threads, so swapping to a can is painless. The user-adjustable gas block is the feature you will appreciate most if you run suppressed, since you can dial the system in for a consistent recoil impulse either way, and the DLC-coated bolt carrier group cycles clean and wipes down easy.
Both receivers are CNC machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a Type III hard coat anodized finish, and the lower gets a flared magwell plus a QD swivel point at the rear. The free-floated DD5 Rail 15.0 gives you a full-length top rail for optics, night vision, or a clip-on thermal, with M-LOK slots everywhere else for bipods and accessories. The 6-position buttstock and grip both wear Daniel Defense soft-touch overmolding, which is a small detail you notice every time you shoulder it.
It runs SR-25 pattern magazines and ships with a 20-round PMAG, so spares are cheap and everywhere. Whether your thing is steel at distance, PRS-style matches, or a semi-auto hunting rig with real reach, this rifle earns its spot in the safe.
With quality match ammunition and a capable optic, this platform is built to make hits out to 1,000 meters and beyond. The 6.5 Creedmoor's high ballistic coefficient bullets deliver flatter trajectories and less wind drift than most short-action cartridges, and the 20-inch barrel squeezes out the velocity to take advantage of that.
Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24 behind the included Superior Suppression Device, so mounting a can is straightforward. Better yet, the user-adjustable gas block lets you tune the gas system for suppressed use, keeping the recoil impulse and cycling consistent instead of overgassed.
It runs standard SR-25 pattern magazines and ships with one 20-round Magpul PMAG. That pattern is the most common large-frame AR magazine out there, so finding affordable spares is never a problem.
No, it ships optic ready with a bare full-length Picatinny top rail. Given what this rifle is built for, most owners mount a quality variable-power scope in the 3-18x or 5-25x range. The uninterrupted rail also leaves room for clip-on night vision or thermal units in front of your day optic.
