The Daniel Defense MFR 13.5 M-LOK handguard is one of those upgrades that pays off the moment you get your hands on it. It's a free-float, machined 6061-T6 aluminum rail that skips the front-end contact of a drop-in guard, so nothing but your barrel touches your barrel. That translates to more consistent shots downrange, and the slim outer diameter makes it easy to grab, C-clamp, or run a forward grip on. At right around 8 ounces, it keeps your build light and nimble up front.
Up top you get an uninterrupted MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail that lines up cleanly with your upper for optics, backup irons, or a night vision setup. Along the sides and bottom, M-LOK attachment points sit at seven positions, giving you plenty of real estate to mount lights, lasers, bipods, and hand stops exactly where you want them. Ambidextrous QD sling swivel points are built into both side rails, so lefties and righties can set up a sling without extra hardware.
This rail runs on Daniel Defense's Bolt-Up System, which anchors to a steel barrel nut and torques down solid for a stable, wobble-free fit. Yes, the MFR is built to fit a standard mil-spec AR-15 upper receiver. It will also work on a billet upper that's machined to mil-spec dimensions at the front. Just make sure your gas block is a pinned low-profile design so it clears the inside of the rail.
This handguard supports pistol, carbine, mid-length, and rifle-length gas systems. It's a popular match for 14.5-inch barrels, since the 13.5-inch length lets you tuck the muzzle device in close. As long as you run a pinned low-profile gas block, you're set.
The rail ships with the Bolt-Up System barrel nut wrench and an Allen wrench, so most of what you need is in the box. You'll want to supply your own torque wrench to hit the correct spec on the barrel nut and mounting screws. A vise and upper receiver block make the job a lot easier too.
It is. The handguard mounts to the barrel nut and receiver only, with no contact against the barrel itself. That free-float setup helps deliver more consistent accuracy, especially when you're bracing the rail or running accessories off the front.
