The Shadow 2 Compact is what happens when CZ takes a world-championship-winning competition pistol and asks what it would look like trimmed down for real-world use. The result is a 9mm that comes in at roughly Glock 19 dimensions but shoots nothing like one. The aluminum alloy frame, forged from 7075 aluminum, sheds serious weight compared to the full-size steel Shadow 2, while the contoured slide keeps the reciprocating mass centered over the bore. Pair that with the classic CZ 75-style slide-inside-frame design that puts the bore axis exceptionally low, and you get a compact gun that shoots noticeably flatter than its size suggests.
The trigger is a big part of what separates this pistol from the competition. CZ fitted the Compact with the same Shadow 2 trigger system found in its bigger sibling, which means a smooth, stacking-free double-action pull and a crisp, clean single-action break right around 3.4 lbs with a short, defined reset. The higher beavertail and deeply undercut trigger guard let you ride the gun high in your hand, getting your grip as close to the bore as possible. The ambidextrous manual safety and reversible, extended magazine release make the controls genuinely friendly for both right- and left-handed shooters.
Every Shadow 2 Compact slide comes optics-ready straight from the factory, sharing the same mounting interface as the full-size CZ Shadow 2 OR models. That means the same plates and adapter options work across both guns. The rear HAJO sight sits on its own plate and swaps out when you mount a red dot, so the optic sits as low and close to the bore as possible. When running irons, you've got a red fiber optic front sight that grabs your eye fast, combined with the click-adjustable-for-elevation, drift-adjustable HAJO rear. The flat-top slide has a full-length serrated rib to kill glare and keep your focus on the front sight.
The nitride finish covers the entire pistol and holds up hard to corrosion and wear. Checkered aluminum grips match the front and backstrap checkering for a consistent, no-slip feel throughout. Two 15-round steel magazines are included, and the gun also accepts full-size Shadow 2 17-round mags if you want more capacity at the range.
Yes, every Shadow 2 Compact ships with an optics-ready slide cut straight from the factory. The mounting interface is the same as the full-size CZ Shadow 2 OR, so the same adapter plates are compatible across both guns. To mount a red dot, you remove the HAJO rear sight plate and replace it with your optic plate of choice. Popular options include plates for Trijicon RMR, Holosun 407C/507C, and K-series footprints.
The Compact uses a forged 7075 aluminum frame instead of the full-size's heavier steel frame, which drops the weight down to around 30.8 oz versus the full-size's 46.5 oz. The barrel is 4" versus 4.89", and the overall length is about an inch shorter. You do give up a little mass-induced recoil dampening, but the ergonomics, trigger system, and bore axis geometry are essentially identical to the full-size gun.
It can. The Shadow 2 Compact has a manual ambidextrous thumb safety and no decocker, so you can chamber a round, cock the hammer, engage the safety, and carry it in single-action mode much like a traditional 1911-style setup. Alternatively, many people prefer to carry it with the hammer down in double-action mode, using the heavier DA pull as the safety margin for the first shot.
It ships with two 15-round steel double-stack magazines and uses the same CZ 75 Compact-pattern mags as the P-01. The gun will also accept full-size Shadow 2 17-round magazines, which extend slightly below the grip but function reliably. CZ 75 Compact and P-01 mags are generally interchangeable as well, making spare magazines relatively easy to source.
The DA pull is on the heavier side at around 10.3 lbs, but it's notably smooth with no stacking or gritty spots, which makes it more manageable than that number implies. Once the hammer is back, the single-action break is crisp and light at around 3.4 lbs with a short reset. Most people who put range time into the platform find the transition between the two modes becomes second nature fairly quickly.
The Shadow 2 Compact shoots considerably flatter than most compacts in its class. The CZ 75-style slide-inside-frame design keeps the bore axis very low, which limits muzzle flip. Additional weight built into the dust cover area also helps keep the muzzle down on follow-up shots. Reviewers consistently note that even with the aluminum frame shedding weight over the full-size, the Compact still manages recoil better than similarly sized polymer-framed pistols.
