The CZ 75 has been one of the most respected full-size pistols in the world since its debut in 1975. Designed by František Koucký and built around a double-stack magazine, all-steel construction, and a DA/SA trigger system that was genuinely ahead of its time, the platform went on to influence a generation of service pistols and earn loyal followings among law enforcement, competitive shooters, and collectors alike. The 50th Anniversary BD edition celebrates that half-century milestone with commemorative engraving on the frame while keeping everything that made the CZ 75 great exactly as it should be.
The BD variant swaps the manual thumb safety for a dedicated decocking lever mounted on the left side of the frame. This lets you safely drop the hammer on a loaded chamber without manually controlling it, putting the pistol into a hammer-down double-action carry mode. For anyone who prefers the SIG-style DA/SA carry setup over cocked-and-locked, the BD is the CZ 75 to reach for. Once the hammer is down, the first shot fires in double-action and all follow-up shots run in crisp single-action. The firing pin block safety adds another layer of drop protection on top of the hammer safety notch, so the safety system here is thorough without being complicated.
The 4.6-inch barrel is cold hammer-forged by CZ, which means the steel is compacted during manufacturing rather than cut, resulting in tighter bore geometry and longer service life. The slide rides inside the frame rather than over it, which lowers the bore axis and contributes to the notably flat recoil that CZ 75 fans have appreciated for years. The all-steel frame adds weight at about 35.3 oz., but that mass works in your favor when you're putting rounds downrange. Fixed three-dot sights keep the sight picture straightforward and fast. The black polycoat finish is durable and low-glare, and the black plastic grips fill the hand well right out of the box.

The main difference is the operating system. The standard CZ 75 B uses a frame-mounted manual safety that allows cocked-and-locked single-action carry, similar to a 1911. The BD replaces that manual safety with a decocking lever, which safely lowers the hammer onto a loaded chamber so the pistol can be carried in a hammer-down, double-action-first mode. Neither is better than the other outright. It really comes down to your training background and how you prefer to carry.

The lever is mounted on the left side of the frame. When pressed, it safely lowers the hammer from the fully cocked position without requiring you to manually control the hammer during the process. After decocking, the pistol is in double-action mode and ready to fire with a longer, heavier first trigger pull followed by shorter single-action pulls for subsequent shots.
A few design elements work together to make it feel flatter than most service pistols its size. The slide rides inside the frame rather than over the top of it, which keeps the bore axis low. Combined with the weight of the all-steel frame and the natural grip geometry, the gun tracks back and returns to target in a pretty controlled way. It's one of the more pleasant full-size 9mms to run for extended range sessions.

Given the weight of the steel frame, an OWB holster with good retention tends to be the preferred carry setup for most people running a full-size 75 BD.
