The PCR name is short for Police Czech Republic, which tells you exactly where this pistol comes from and what it was built to do. Designed as a lighter, carry-ready variant of the CZ 75 Compact, the PCR swaps the steel frame for a forged aluminum alloy unit that cuts a full quarter pound compared to its steel-framed siblings. That might not sound like a lot on paper, but at the end of a long day on your hip, you'll feel the difference. The steel slide stays put for durability and that characteristically low bore axis the CZ 75 platform is famous for, which keeps muzzle flip in check and lets the gun settle back on target fast.
This isn't a standard production PCR. MPN 91048 is a CZ Custom Shop build, and the upgrades are practical rather than cosmetic. The trigger has been professionally worked with a CZC competition hammer, a 14-pound mainspring, and an 85 gunsmith-fit trigger, dialing in a pull that's noticeably smoother and more consistent than what comes on the base model. The sights have also been swapped out, with a bright fiber optic front paired to a plain blackout rear that draws your eye straight to the front post. Thin aluminum grip panels replace the standard rubber ones, slimming down the profile for easier concealment and a slightly more precise feel in hand. These are exactly the kinds of changes CZ enthusiasts pay shops like Cajun Gun Works to perform after purchase, done here before the gun ships.
The PCR runs the same slide-in-frame design as the rest of the CZ 75 family, where the slide rides inside the frame rails rather than on top of them. This gives the action a longer rail engagement surface and contributes to that smooth, planted shooting feel the platform is known for. The frame-mounted decocker replaces the manual safety found on other CZ 75 variants, letting you safely drop the hammer before holstering and carry in double-action mode. That first pull is longer and heavier, similar to a DA revolver, but every subsequent shot in single-action is where the trigger job really shines. The pistol also includes a loaded chamber indicator and serrations on both the front and backstrap for a confident grip under any conditions. With two 15-round magazines in the box, you're ready to go from the start.
The 91048 is a CZ Custom Shop build rather than a standard production pistol. It comes with a factory trigger job that includes a CZC competition hammer, a 14-pound mainspring, and an 85 gunsmith-fit trigger for a cleaner, more consistent pull. Thin aluminum grips and a fiber optic front sight with a blackout rear are also part of the package, so you're getting a tuned gun right out of the box.
The frame-mounted decocker safely lowers the hammer from single-action to double-action without the gun firing. The idea is to decock before holstering so the pistol is carried in double-action mode, with that longer, heavier first pull acting as a built-in safety layer. After the first shot, the gun operates in single-action for the remainder of the magazine, where the trigger job on this Custom Shop version really pays off.
The two guns are very similar in size and both use the same forged aluminum alloy frame. The main difference is that the P-01 has an integrated accessory rail on the frame, while the PCR omits it, making the PCR slightly more concealable with a cleaner profile under a cover garment. If you want to run a weapon-mounted light, the P-01 is the better fit, but for pure concealment the PCR has a slight edge.
It was literally designed for that purpose, originally developed for the Czech national police for plainclothes and off-duty carry. The aluminum frame keeps weight at 27.5 ounces unloaded, the compact footprint works well in an IWB holster, and the decocker gives you a safe, straightforward carry protocol. The 15+1 capacity is also generous for a gun this size.
Yes, the PCR includes a loaded chamber indicator that gives you a physical and visual way to verify the chamber status without having to rack the slide. It's a small feature that adds real practical value, especially for everyday carry where a quick chamber check matters.
The CZ 75 D PCR shares a very similar footprint with the CZ P-01 (minus the rail), so holsters cut for the P-01 without a light attachment often fit the PCR well. Many kydex makers including Alien Gear and Vedder offer specific PCR cuts for both IWB and OWB configurations. Because the PCR has no accessory rail, it has a slimmer frame profile than the P-01, which can actually open up holster options.
