There are plenty of accurate rimfire bolt guns out there, but very few that fit a 10 year old on Saturday and a full grown adult on Sunday without touching a screwdriver. That is the whole idea behind the CZ 457 At-One Varmint. CZ dropped their 457 Varmint barreled action into a Boyd's AT-ONE laminate stock, which gives you push-button length of pull adjustment from 12.5 to 14.25 inches plus an adjustable comb with 5/8 inch of rise. Shorter arms, longer arms, big scope, small scope, it all dials in fast right at the bench.
Under that adjustable furniture is the same hardware that made the 457 a favorite in precision rimfire circles. The 24 inch cold hammer forged heavy barrel wears a black nitride finish and a 1:16 twist, and the muzzle is threaded 1/2×28 so adding a suppressor or muzzle device is painless. The 457 action is shorter and trimmer than the old 455, runs a smooth 60 degree bolt throw that leaves room for larger scope objectives, and feeds from a reliable detachable 5-round polymer magazine. The trigger is adjustable from the factory, and the receiver-mounted two-position safety is a push-to-fire design that instructors tend to appreciate when coaching newer marksmen.
There are no iron sights on this one, and that is by design. The receiver has an integral 11mm dovetail cut, so you can clamp rimfire rings straight to the action or add a Picatinny rail adapter if you would rather run standard rings. With the adjustable comb, getting a solid cheek weld behind a chunky scope is easy instead of a compromise.
At a bit over 7 pounds bare, the At-One Varmint has enough heft to settle nicely on bags for squirrels, steel, or club matches, without being a boat anchor in the field. If you want one rimfire that grows with a new marksman and still holds its own in NRL22 style shooting, this is a strong way to go.
The Boyd's AT-ONE stock uses a push-button system, so no tools are needed. Length of pull adjusts from 12.5 to 14.25 inches, and the comb offers 5/8 inch of rise. That makes it quick to swap between different sized family members or to fine tune your cheek weld behind a scope.
