Keeping Traditions Alive Since 1953

Savage built its name on rifles that shoot better than their price tag suggests, and the Axis 2 Pro keeps that tradition going. This one comes chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, a cartridge that has earned its spot in deer camps everywhere thanks to flat trajectories, mild recoil, and no-drama performance on game out to distances most of us have no business shooting past. The 20 inch heavy sporter barrel keeps the rifle handy in a blind or truck window while still giving the Creedmoor plenty of room to do its thing.
The spiral fluting on the barrel is exclusive to the Forest SP camo models, and it does more than look good. Fluting sheds weight and helps the barrel cool faster between shots, which pays off when you are checking zero or running a few groups at the range. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, so adding a suppressor or brake is a five minute job. Up top, a one-piece 0 MOA Picatinny rail comes installed, and the metalwork wears a Gun Metal Bronze Cerakote finish that shrugs off rain, sweat, and rough handling.
The user-adjustable AccuTrigger remains one of the best factory triggers in this class, letting you dial in a crisp, clean pull without a trip to the gunsmith. The Forest SP synthetic stock has an added textured coating for grip in wet weather, ambidextrous palm swells, a recoil pad, and two sling studs. An updated ergonomic bolt handle runs smoothly even with cold or gloved hands, and the detachable 4-round box magazine with an ambidextrous release makes loading and unloading quick.
At 6.8 pounds bare and 40.5 inches overall, this rifle carries easily on long walks to the stand. Mount a scope, dial in the trigger, find the load your barrel likes, and it is ready for whitetail, mule deer, antelope, or hogs. Simple, accurate, and built for actual hunting.
No, this model ships without sights or a scope. It does come with a one-piece 0 MOA Picatinny rail already installed on the receiver, so mounting the optic of your choice is quick and straightforward. Just add rings and a scope and you are ready to zero.
Yes, the 20 inch barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is the standard pattern for most 6.5 Creedmoor and .30 caliber suppressors and muzzle brakes. The spiral fluting is also unique to the Forest SP camo versions of the Axis 2 Pro and helps the barrel cool faster between shots.
You can. The Axis 2 Pro comes with Savage's user-adjustable AccuTrigger, which lets you set the pull weight at home with the included instructions and a simple tool. It breaks clean from the factory, and being able to fine-tune it is a big part of why these rifles shoot so well for the money.
It is a natural fit for deer-sized game like whitetail, mule deer, and antelope, and it handles hogs and similar critters just fine. The 6.5 Creedmoor shoots flat with light recoil, so it also doubles nicely as a range rifle for stretching your legs at longer distances. At 6.8 pounds with a 20 inch barrel, it carries well on all-day hunts too.
