The CVA Scout in .400 Legend is about as straightforward as a hunting rifle gets, and that's the whole point. It's a single shot break-action that opens by pulling down on the hooked triggerguard, fired by a manually cocked external hammer. That means one round, one shot, and a design that forces you to make it count. For a lot of folks hunting straight-wall cartridge country, that kind of simplicity is exactly what they're after, and the .400 Legend brings plenty of punch on whitetails and hogs out to practical ranges.
This particular Scout comes dressed in Patriot Brown Cerakote over the metalwork, which holds up well against sweat, rain, and the general abuse that comes with real field use. The synthetic stock is finished in Mossy Oak Bottomland camo, a pattern that breaks up your outline nicely in the timber, swamps, and early-season woods. The 22-inch barrel is fluted to shave a little weight and help with cooling, and it comes threaded with a 5/8×24 muzzle for anyone who wants to run a brake or suppressor down the road.
CVA built in a 0 MOA DuraSight rail base, so mounting a scope is quick and painless. The stock features a removable spacer so you can tune the length of pull to fit you or a younger hunter, and CVA's CrushZone recoil pad takes the sting out of the bigger straight-wall loads. With a 1:16 twist, the barrel is set up to stabilize the heavier .400 Legend bullets that make this round such a capable deer cartridge.
Light, trim, and genuinely easy to shoot well, the Scout earns its keep as a no-nonsense hunting rig. It travels easy in a truck or treestand and doesn't demand a big investment to get in the field with a serious straight-wall cartridge.
Yes, the 22-inch fluted barrel comes threaded with a 5/8×24 pattern at the muzzle. That lets you add a muzzle brake or suppressor if you decide to go that route. It ships with a thread protector in place to keep the threads clean when nothing is attached.
Absolutely. The Scout comes with a 0 MOA DuraSight rail base already installed, so you just need rings to add the optic of your choice. Since it's a single shot with no iron sights included, mounting a scope or red dot is the way most hunters set this rifle up.
The .400 Legend is a straight-wall cartridge built with deer hunting in mind, and it hits plenty hard on whitetails and hogs at practical woods ranges. It throws a heavy bullet with good knockdown at moderate distances. Paired with this Scout's 1:16 twist barrel, it's a very capable setup for the deer woods.
The Scout uses CVA's ambidextrous break-action design that opens by pulling down on the hooked triggerguard. It's fired by a manually cocked external hammer, so you load one round, cock the hammer, and you're ready. The simplicity makes it easy to run and easy to keep clean.
