Description

CVA built its name on muzzleloaders and single-shot rifles, and when they finally jumped into the bolt-action game with the Cascade, they came in swinging. This .270 Winchester version is a straightforward, well-built hunting rifle that packs in features a lot of brands reserve for their upgraded lines. The 24-inch 4140 carbon steel barrel wears a Graphite Black Cerakote finish that shrugs off rain, snow, and truck bed abuse, and the muzzle comes threaded 5/8×24 so you can spin on a brake or suppressor the day you bring it home.

Why the Cascade Works in the Field

The .270 Win has been dropping deer, antelope, and elk for the better part of a century, and the 24-inch tube with a 1:10 twist lets the cartridge stretch its legs the way it was meant to. The bolt runs on a 70-degree throw, which means faster cycling and plenty of clearance under your scope, and the two-position safety sits right where your thumb expects it. Rounds feed from a flush-fit detachable magazine that keeps the belly of the rifle snag-free when you are crawling through brush or sliding it in and out of a scabbard.

A Stock That Fits More Than One Hunter

The fiberglass-reinforced synthetic stock comes in a muted OD green with a SoftTouch finish that stays grippy with cold or wet hands. Length of pull adjusts with a removable spacer, so the same rifle can fit a growing kid this season and a full-sized adult the next. Dual front sling studs give you a spot for a bipod and a sling at the same time, which is a small touch that hunters appreciate more every year.

Setting Up Your CVA Cascade .270

The receiver is drilled and tapped to accept Savage 110-style bases, and current models come topped with a 0 MOA Picatinny rail, so mounting glass is about as painless as it gets. At roughly 7.3 pounds bare, it carries comfortably on all-day hunts without feeling whippy off sticks. For a do-it-all deer and western big game rig, the Cascade is tough to argue with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the CVA Cascade .270 Win suppressor ready?

Yes. The 24-inch barrel comes threaded from the factory in the common 5/8×24 pattern, so most .30 caliber and smaller suppressors and muzzle brakes will thread right on. There is no gunsmith work needed, just remove the thread protector and attach your device.

What scope bases fit the Cascade rifle?

The receiver is drilled and tapped for Savage 110-style two-piece bases, which are easy to find just about anywhere optics are sold. Current production Cascades also ship with a 0 MOA Picatinny rail installed, so you can mount most modern scope rings straight out of the box.

Is the CVA Cascade a good rifle for a younger or smaller hunter?

It is one of the better options out there for a shared family rifle. The buttstock uses a removable spacer to adjust length of pull, so you can shorten it for a smaller-framed hunter and add the spacer back as they grow. The .270 Win has manageable recoil in a rifle this size, especially with a brake or suppressor on the threaded muzzle.

What game is the .270 Winchester Cascade suited for?

The .270 Win is a proven all-around big game cartridge, and the 24-inch barrel with a 1:10 twist gets full velocity out of it. It is a classic choice for whitetail, mule deer, and antelope, and with well-constructed bullets it handles elk-sized game at reasonable distances. Flat trajectory makes it a favorite for open country hunts out West.
