The Crimson Trace LG-314 HogHunter transforms the way you shoot large-frame revolvers by combining a precision laser with a grippier, more controllable grip profile. Designed specifically for Smith & Wesson N-Frame round-butt models, this grip replacement is built from rubber-overmolded construction that provides superior ergonomics and recoil management compared to factory grips—especially important when you're dealing with the snap of full-power magnum loads.
The signature feature here is Crimson Trace's Instinctive Activation system. There's no button to fumble with or remember to push. Simply grip the revolver naturally and the front-strap pressure switch engages automatically. When you holster or relax your grip, the laser shuts off just as naturally. This means in a defensive situation, your laser is armed the moment you present the gun—no thinking required, no fumbling with switches while under stress.
The laser produces a 5mW red dot at 633 nanometers, which is the legal maximum allowed. At 50 feet, you get a dot roughly the size of a half-inch circle. The beam is bright enough to pick up in daylight and definitely visible in low-light conditions where those old tritium sights become nearly useless. Both windage and elevation are user-adjustable with the provided wrench, though adjustments are more trial-and-error than click-based scopes—it comes factory-sighted at 50 feet.
Power comes from two included CR2032 lithium batteries that give over four hours of continuous use and a five-year shelf life. There's also a master on-off switch on the bottom of the grip to preserve battery life if you're shooting in bright daylight. The whole setup adds less than an ounce. Installation is straightforward—just remove your factory grips and screw these on. No gunsmithing, no permanent modifications. The compact design keeps your existing holsters compatible since the profile stays true to the original round-butt shape.

The activation switch is built into the front strap of the grip. When you take a normal firing grip on your revolver, your hand naturally compresses the pressure pad and the laser turns on instantly. When you holster the gun or relax your grip, the laser shuts off. There's no button to push or switch to flip—it's automatic and works for both right and left-handed shooters.
The LG-314 is designed specifically for S&W N-Frame round-butt models, including the 20 through 29, 57, 58, and the Performance Center versions (325PD, 329PD, 327PD, 357PD). If you have a different frame size like a K-Frame or J-Frame, or if your revolver has a square-butt grip, you'll need a different model. Check your revolver's model number to confirm.
Yes. The HogHunter grips are designed to match the original round-butt profile closely enough that standard holsters made for your specific revolver model will still work. The laser protrudes slightly on the side at the top of the grip, but doesn't interfere with most holster fitment.
The laser comes factory-sighted at 50 feet. If you need to adjust for windage or elevation, you use the small wrench included with the grips—there are adjustment notches on the top of the grip that let you fine-tune the point of aim. It's a trial-and-error process rather than click adjustments, so plan to make adjustments and test at the range.
