Few revolvers carry the weight of a name like the Python does, and this 2.5-inch stainless version brings all of that heritage into a size you can realistically carry. Colt builds the modern Python from stronger stainless steel alloys than the originals, and the redesigned rear sight sits on thirty percent more steel than the old configuration, so the parts that take abuse on a hard-kicking magnum are built to handle it. The full stainless frame, cylinder, and vent rib barrel wear a semi-bright polish that looks fantastic without being a mirror you have to baby.
The short barrel wears a recessed target crown to protect the rifling, and the 1-in-14 inch twist stabilizes a wide spread of bullet weights. Up top you get a red ramp front sight that is user-interchangeable, paired with a fully adjustable rear, which is a real luxury on a snub-nose revolver where most of the competition gives you a fixed trench. The walnut target stocks with the Colt medallion fill the hand nicely and help you manage full-house .357 Magnum loads, and at 39 ounces the all-steel build soaks up recoil better than the airweight snubs ever could. Yes. Since it's chambered in .357 Magnum, it safely fires .38 Special as well, including +P loads. A lot of owners run .38s for practice and casual range time, then load magnums for defensive use. The all-steel frame makes .38 Special feel downright gentle out of this gun.

Colt also simplified the internals for improved durability while keeping the smooth double action the Python is known for. It carries well for a full steel revolver, with the short barrel making holster work and concealment much easier than the longer Pythons. At 39 ounces it's heavier than an alloy-frame snub, but that weight pays you back with noticeably softer recoil when firing .357 Magnum. A quality belt and holster make it a very manageable daily companion.
Yes, the red ramp front sight is user-interchangeable, so you can swap in a fiber optic, brass bead, or night sight from the aftermarket. Combined with the fully adjustable rear sight, you have far more flexibility than the fixed sights found on most short-barreled revolvers.
