There's a reason the Grizzly turned heads when Colt rolled it out. It takes the smooth leaf-spring action that made the Python famous and wraps it in a working revolver built to be shot hard, not tucked away in a safe. This 3-inch version is the handiest of the bunch, short enough to ride comfortably on a belt through the backcountry but with enough sight radius and weight to shoot like a much bigger gun.
The one-piece full-lug stainless barrel wears a ventilated rib, a recessed target crown, and factory porting cuts that vent gas upward to fight muzzle flip. Fire a cylinder of full-house .357 Magnum through a ported 3-inch gun and then through a non-ported one, and the difference is obvious. The unfluted six-round cylinder adds a little extra mass right where it helps, and it gives the gun a clean, purposeful look. Up top you get a red ramp front sight paired with a rear that adjusts for windage and elevation, with a matte finish on the rib to cut glare against the polished stainless frame.
The trigger is where the Python heritage really shows. Colt's leaf-spring action gives you a non-stacking double-action pull that stays consistent all the way through, plus a crisp single-action break when you cock the serrated hammer for a deliberate shot. Recoil-absorbing Hogue OverMolded rubber grips keep the gun planted in your hand, and if you ever want a different feel, they swap with any Python or Anaconda grip. Since it chambers .38 Special alongside .357 Magnum, you can run soft-recoiling practice loads all day and save the heavy stuff for when it counts.
Between the porting, the steel frame weight, and those grips, this is a magnum you can shoot fast and shoot well. Load it with hard-cast bear loads for the woods, hollow points for home defense, or wadcutters for a relaxed afternoon at the range. The Grizzly handles all of it without complaint, and the polished stainless finish shrugs off weather and sweat along the way.
Yes. Like any .357 Magnum revolver, the Grizzly happily runs .38 Special through the same cylinder. That makes practice sessions a lot more pleasant on the hand and the wallet, and it's a great way for newer revolver owners to build confidence before stepping up to full magnum loads.
The 3-inch model is the most carry-friendly of the family, trading a bit of velocity and sight radius for a gun that's quicker out of a holster and easier to pack all day. The factory porting matters most on this shorter barrel, since snubby magnums are usually the hardest to control. If your priority is trail carry or home defense over pure target work, the 3-inch is the sweet spot.
They do. The factory Hogue OverMolded rubber grips are interchangeable with grips made for the Colt Python and Anaconda, so you have a big aftermarket to choose from. Whether you want walnut for looks or a different rubber profile for your hand size, swapping is straightforward.
