Colt has been building AR pattern rifles longer than anyone, and the M5 Carbine Sentry is what happens when they take everything learned over those decades and start fresh. The M5 platform has been serving with military and law enforcement units overseas since 2017, and the Sentry is the semi-auto version built for the US market. Both receivers are completely redesigned, machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a hardcoat anodized finish, and the upper mates to Colt's new 15 inch free float M-LOK rail so tightly the whole assembly feels like one solid piece. That rigidity matters when you mount an optic and expect it to hold zero through rough handling.
This is the big one. The M5 Sentry lower gives you an ambidextrous safety, bolt catch, and magazine release without any aftermarket parts. Left-handed folks finally get a factory Colt that works with them instead of against them, and right-handed users will appreciate being able to run the gun from either shoulder. It puts the Sentry in the same conversation as high-end ambi rifles costing considerably more, with the rampant Colt on the side.
The 16.1 inch barrel is 4150 CMV steel with a chrome-lined bore and a 1:7 twist, so it stabilizes everything from light varmint loads to heavy 77 grain match ammo and shrugs off high round counts. The carbine-length gas system is the same proven setup Colt has refined for years, meaning smooth cycling with a wide range of 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem ammunition. A Magpul CTR collapsible stock, A2 grip, flip-up front and rear sights, and full-length flat top Picatinny rail round out the package, and the whole rifle comes in around 6.8 pounds unloaded.
Plenty of ARs check boxes on paper. The M5 Sentry is one of those rifles that feels different in hand, with a heavy-duty lockup and controls that fall right where your thumbs want them. It ships with a 30 round magazine and is ready for duty use, home defense, or serious range work the day you bring it home.

The Sentry keeps the redesigned receivers, ambi controls, and free float rail system while running a 16.1 inch barrel and semi-auto fire control for the US market.
Yes, the lower receiver includes an ambidextrous safety selector, magazine release, and bolt catch from the factory. Left-side and right-side users can run the rifle without swapping any parts. It is a genuine mirror-image control setup, not just an added safety lever.
The 1:7 twist is on the fast side, which means it stabilizes heavier bullets like 69 and 77 grain match loads extremely well while still shooting common 55 and 62 grain ammo just fine. The chamber accepts both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington, so you have flexibility across the full range of available ammunition. The chrome-lined 4150 CMV barrel is built to handle high volume shooting.
It ships with flip-up front and rear iron sights, so it is usable right out of the box. The full-length flat top Picatinny rail runs across the receiver and handguard, giving you plenty of real estate for red dots, LPVOs, or magnifier setups. The rigid upper and rail connection does a great job of holding zero once your optic is mounted.
