Most AR pistols get a shorter barrel but keep the same buffer tube hanging off the back, so the package never ends up as small as it looks on paper. CMMG went after the real problem. The Dissent MK4 uses their patent-pending Compact Action, which relocates the entire recoil system into the upper receiver above the bolt carrier. No buffer tube, no receiver extension, just a clean 1913 Picatinny rail section at the rear of the lower so you can mount whatever fits your setup. The result is a 300 Blackout pistol that measures 14.7 inches overall and weighs around 4.6 pounds, making it the shortest, most packable gun CMMG has ever built.
The 6.5 inch barrel sounds stubby until you remember 300 Blackout was designed from the start to burn its powder in short barrels. Subsonic loads especially give up almost nothing here, which is exactly why this platform gets suppressed so often. The 4140CM barrel wears a salt bath nitride finish, spins a 1:7 twist, and threads at 5/8×24 behind CMMG's Zeroed linear compensator, which pushes blast forward instead of back at you. The SLR adjustable gas block is the quiet hero of the whole package, letting you dial the system in for supersonic range ammo, subsonic loads, or a can without beating up the gun or your ejection pattern.
CMMG paired the Compact Action with a forward non-reciprocating side charging handle that swaps to either side, plus fully ambidextrous AR-style controls, so lefties are not an afterthought. The trigger is a TriggerTech AR-D two-stage developed specifically for the Dissent, breaking at a crisp 4 pounds that feels far better than anything mil-spec.
Both receivers are 7075-T6 aluminum dressed in a two-tone Tungsten gray Cerakote that wears hard and looks sharp doing it. A 5.5 inch M-LOK handguard keeps accessories close and the whole package tight. Two 30-round magazines come in the box, and CMMG backs it all with their Lifetime Quality Guarantee. Add a red dot to the optic-ready top rail and you have a truck gun, bag gun, or suppressor host that takes up half the space of a conventional AR pistol.
