Anyone who's run a .22 LR conversion in an AR knows the frustration: you're cruising along, then a little spent rimfire case ejects up into the hollow channel of a standard charging handle and everything grinds to a stop. This CMMG 22BA596 Anti-Jam Charging Handle Assembly was built specifically to solve that headache. Instead of the deep open channel found on a normal AR handle, it uses a filled-in, reinforced channel that leaves only the small amount of clearance needed to cycle the .22 bolt, so those tiny casings have nowhere to wedge themselves.
This handle is purpose-made for CMMG's .22 ARC conversion kits, their dedicated .22 LR uppers, and the matching 22ARC bolt carrier group. The shallow groove on the underside is the whole trick here. Standard AR charging handles have a deep hollow channel underneath, and when you run a .22 LR conversion, small spent casings can eject up into that space and cause a jam. For .22 LR use, yes. Rimfire operates at much lower pressure than .223/5.56, so the polymer construction holds up well, and plenty of owners report running thousands of rounds without issues. If you were slamming full-power centerfire loads through it that would be a different conversation, but this handle is purpose-built for the light demands of a .22 setup.
