Big-bore fans have a soft spot for .45 ACP, and CMMG clearly does too. The cartridge is what inspired their Radial Delayed Blowback system back in 2017, and the Banshee MkG is where it all comes together in the most compact package they make. Instead of the heavy bolt and stiff recoil spring you get with straight blowback guns, the rotating bolt delays the action just long enough to bleed off pressure, which means a lighter carrier, less muzzle flip, and a recoil impulse that feels surprisingly polite for a .45. Run it side by side with a blowback PCC and the difference is obvious on the first magazine.
CMMG built the MkG platform around Glock-pattern .45 ACP magazines, and that was a smart call. Mags are affordable, easy to find, and proven, and the pistol ships with a 13-rounder in the box. The 5-inch barrel is threaded .578×28 and comes capped with a Zeroed linear compensator, so you can run it as-is or spin on a suppressor. Speaking of cans, the delayed action noticeably cuts port noise, which is a big part of why this platform has earned a reputation as one of the best .45 suppressor hosts around.
The details are where this one earns its keep. You get an ambidextrous charging handle, a 60/90 degree ambi safety selector, and a crisp single-stage Zeroed trigger, all standard. The handguard carries M-LOK slots at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock plus a full-length Picatinny top rail with an integrated handstop, and the six-position RipBrace deploys fast when you need it. The billet aluminum receivers wear a Tungsten Cerakote finish that looks great and shrugs off wear. At around 4.4 pounds unloaded, it stows just about anywhere, and the flat-top rail is ready for whatever red dot you prefer. It's built around Glock-pattern .45 ACP magazines, so Glock 21 and Glock 30 mags drop right in. One 13-round magazine comes in the box. For the best reliability, OEM Glock mags are the way to go, and they're cheap and easy to find just about anywhere.
It's one of the best .45 ACP hosts out there. The barrel is threaded .578×28, which is the standard pitch for .45 cal muzzle devices, and the Radial Delayed Blowback action keeps the bolt locked just long enough to noticeably cut down port noise and gas blowback. Since .45 ACP is subsonic in most standard loads, you don't even need special ammo to shoot quiet.
A straight blowback gun relies on a heavy bolt and stiff spring to keep the action closed during firing, which adds weight and gives you that clunky recoil impulse. CMMG's system uses a rotating bolt that has to unlock before it can cycle, delaying the action just long enough to let pressure drop. That allows a lighter bolt and buffer, which means less felt recoil and less muzzle flip, especially with a big cartridge like the .45.
Mostly, yes. The charging handle and the 60/90 degree safety selector are both ambidextrous, so southpaws can run the two most-used controls without any workarounds. The mag release and bolt controls remain in their standard AR positions.
