There's a sweet spot between a stubby 7.5 inch AR pistol that dumps most of its velocity out the muzzle and a full 16 inch carbine that won't fit behind the truck seat. The CMMG Banshee Mk4 with its 12.5 inch barrel lives right in that pocket. The 5.56 NATO round gets enough barrel to build real velocity and hold its own at distance, while the whole package stays short and handy enough to work in tight spaces. Running a carbine-length gas system on the 4140CM barrel also means smoother cycling and less abuse on parts than the short, overgassed setups you see on a lot of compact ARs.
CMMG didn't build this one from a parts bin. The receivers are forged 7075-T6 aluminum, and the gun comes loaded with the company's Zeroed line of upgrades: a drop-in trigger, pistol grip, 60/90 degree ambidextrous safety, ambi charging handle, ambi mag catch, and an extended mag release. Lefties get a genuinely usable gun right out of the box. Up front, the muzzle wears a Zeroed linear compensator on 1/2×28 threads, which pushes blast and concussion forward instead of back at you. Anyone who has stood next to a short-barreled 5.56 on an indoor range knows why that matters.
The RipBrace is one of the better ideas in this category. Pull it straight back and it deploys to your preset length in one motion, no fiddling with adjustment levers. The EML handguard runs full-length M-LOK slots on the sides and bottom, plus more between the top Picatinny sections, so lights, lasers, and hand stops all have a home. The top rail is clean and optics ready, letting you pick the red dot or LPVO that fits how you plan to run it.
The Midnight Bronze Cerakote sets it apart from the sea of black rifles at the range, and it ships with a 30-round Magpul PMAG so you're ready to load up on day one. For a do-it-all compact 5.56, this one is tough to beat.
The 5.56 NATO cartridge is velocity dependent, and very short barrels leave a lot of performance on the table. A 12.5 inch barrel recovers most of what you'd get from a 16 inch carbine while keeping the gun compact. The carbine-length gas system also runs smoother and softer than the pistol-length setups found on shorter builds.

The barrel is threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pitch for 5.56 muzzle devices and suppressor mounts, so it's suppressor friendly. Just remove the factory Zeroed linear compensator and install your can or mount of choice. The 12.5 inch barrel is a popular suppressor host length since the extra velocity helps ammo stay supersonic and consistent.
