The Banshee Mk4 in 5.56 NATO runs a 10.5 inch barrel, the shortest 5.56 Banshee CMMG has ever offered. At about 26 inches overall and 5.5 pounds, it slips into a backpack or behind a truck seat without a fuss, and it still delivers real centerfire rifle performance that no pistol caliber setup can match.
The 10.5 inch 4140CM barrel gets a salt bath nitride treatment for corrosion resistance and long service life, with a 1:7 twist that stabilizes everything from lightweight varmint loads up to heavy 77 grain match bullets. Gas is handled by a carbine-length direct impingement system with a non-adjustable .750 gas block, which is exactly the kind of simple, proven arrangement you want in a gun built for reliability. Out front, CMMG's ZEROED linear compensator pushes blast and concussion forward instead of back at you, a welcome touch on a short barreled 5.56. The muzzle wears standard 1/2×28 threads if you want to swap devices or run a suppressor down the road.
CMMG loads these up with their ZEROED parts kit as standard equipment: an ambidextrous charging handle, ambi 60/90 degree safety selector, drop-in single stage trigger, and their own pistol grip. The upper is billet 6061-T6 aluminum over a forged 7075-T6 Mk4 lower, all wrapped in Armor Black Cerakote. The EML9 handguard gives you M-LOK slots on three sides plus a full top Picatinny rail, so lights, lasers, and hand stops all have a home. The RipBrace deploys to full extension with one quick pull, which is a genuinely useful feature on a gun meant to be stored compact and put to work fast.
The Mk4 lower takes standard AR-15 pattern magazines and ships with a 30 round Magpul PMAG, so mags are cheap and everywhere. Yes. Unlike CMMG's pistol caliber Banshees that use conversion mags, this 5.56 version feeds from any standard AR-15 pattern magazine. It ships with a 30 round Magpul PMAG, and the Mk4 lower will also accept CMMG's conversion magazines if you pair it with a matching caliber upper later on.
The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pattern for 5.56, so most cans and mounts thread right on once you remove the factory linear comp. Keep in mind that 10.5 inch 5.56 barrels run a lot of gas, so a suppressor rated for short barreled 5.56 use is the way to go.
The RipBrace sits on CMMG's six position receiver extension and can be yanked straight back to your preset length in one motion, no buttons to fiddle with. That makes it quick to deploy from a stored, collapsed position. It also adjusts like a typical carbine setup when you want to fine tune the fit.
You give up some velocity compared to a 16 inch carbine, but 5.56 from a 10.5 inch barrel still runs far ahead of any pistol caliber option in terms of energy and range. The 1:7 twist stabilizes heavier bullets like 62 and 77 grain loads, which tend to perform best out of short barrels. For a compact pack or truck gun, it is a proven combination.
