CMMG went back to the drawing board with the Dissent BR4, and the result is a 5.56 carbine that does things a little differently. Instead of a buffer tube setup, the BR4 runs CMMG's bufferless Compact Action, which lets it wear a Magpul SGA shoulder stock, the same 870 pattern stock plenty of folks already know from their shotguns. The layout feels natural the second you shoulder it, with a crossbolt safety right where your trigger finger expects it and a reversible, non-reciprocating side charging handle that lets you run the bolt without breaking your grip or coming off target.
Under the hood you get a 16.1 inch 4140CM barrel with a salt bath nitride finish, a 1:7 twist that stabilizes everything from lightweight varmint loads up to heavy 77 grain match ammo, and 1/2×28 threads wearing CMMG's Zeroed muzzle brake. The adjustable gas block is the sleeper feature here. Dial it down for suppressed shooting or tune it to your favorite load, and the mid-length direct impingement system stays smooth either way. The Zeroed single stage drop-in trigger, developed with Rise Armament, is a genuine upgrade over the mil-spec triggers most factory rifles ship with.
Both receivers are machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and finished in Midnight Bronze Cerakote, which looks sharp against the black furniture. The 15 inch handguard gives you a full length Picatinny rail up top for optics and M-LOK slots for lights, bipods, and hand stops. The lower feeds from standard AR pattern magazines and accepts any Mk4 Dissent upper group, so swapping to another caliber down the road is a real option, not a pipe dream. Since the stock uses the 870 footprint, you can also swap in other compatible stocks to fine tune the fit.

Yes. The BR4 lower feeds from standard AR pattern STANAG magazines, so your existing PMAGs and aluminum GI mags will run in it. It ships from the factory with two 10-round Magpul PMAGs.
It is one of the better factory setups for it. The 16.1 inch barrel is threaded 1/2×28, and the adjustable gas block lets you turn gas down when running a can so the rifle stays soft shooting and cleaner. Just remove the included Zeroed muzzle brake and mount your suppressor or a compatible mount.
Yes. The BR4 lower uses the Remington 870 stock footprint, so it works with the included Magpul SGA as well as other 870 pattern stocks. That gives you a simple path to adjust length of pull and comb height to fit you.
The biggest change is CMMG's bufferless Compact Action, which removes the buffer tube entirely and allows the traditional shoulder stock and grip layout.
