The Dissent MK4 is CMMG doing what CMMG does best: taking the AR platform you already know and rethinking the parts that hold it back. The big story here is the patent-pending Compact Action, which tucks the entire recoil system into the upper receiver. No buffer tube means the DISSENT side-folding stock folds flat against the receiver, so a full 16.1 inch barreled rifle stows in a pack or truck case that would normally swallow something half its size. Chambered in 22 ARC, it pushes fast, high-BC .22 caliber bullets that hang with 22-250 velocities while feeding reliably from a standard AR magazine well, making it a natural fit for varmints, predators, and stretching steel past where most 5.56 guns give up.
The 16.1 inch 4140CM barrel wears a salt bath nitride finish inside and out, with a 1:7 twist that stabilizes the heavier match bullets 22 ARC was designed around. A ZEROED muzzle brake caps the threaded muzzle to keep an already soft-recoiling cartridge planted, and the adjustable gas block lets you dial the system in for a suppressor or your favorite load. The billet 7075-T6 receiver set carries a 15 inch M-LOK handguard with a full-length top Picatinny rail, so there is plenty of real estate for glass, a bipod, and whatever else your setup calls for.
Instead of a rear charging handle, the Dissent uses a forward-mounted, non-reciprocating side charger that lets you run the bolt without breaking your cheek weld or coming off target. The stock adjusts for both length of pull and cheek height, which matters when you are getting behind a scope with taller mounts. 22 ARC (Advanced Rifle Cartridge) is Hornady's answer to getting 22-250 style velocities out of an AR-sized action. It launches high-BC .22 caliber bullets faster and flatter than 5.56, which makes a real difference on varmints, coyotes, and steel past 400 yards. You get that performance with mild recoil and the same manual of arms you already know.
Yes, and it is set up well for it. The 16.1 inch barrel is threaded and wears a ZEROED muzzle brake from the factory, and the adjustable gas block lets you tune the gas system down when you add a can. That keeps the action running clean and cuts back on gas blowback.
Instead of the usual rear T-handle, the Dissent uses a forward-mounted side charging handle that does not move when the rifle cycles. It ships on the left side so right-handed users can run the bolt with their support hand while staying on the glass. It can be swapped to the right side if that suits you better.
Standard ARs need a buffer tube sticking out the back of the receiver, which blocks a true folding stock. CMMG's Compact Action houses the entire recoil assembly inside the upper receiver, so there is no tube back there at all. That lets the DISSENT stock fold flat for a much shorter package in a pack, case, or behind the truck seat.
