There aren't many rifles you can stash in a daypack and forget about until you need it. The Chiappa Little Badger TDX is one of them. TDX stands for Take Down Xtreme, and it earns the name. Beyond the folding action the whole Little Badger line is known for, the TDX adds a takedown feature that lets you split the rifle into two halves without tools, then nest them together into a bundle roughly 17 inches long. This carbon fiber shroud version wraps the threaded barrel in a lightweight sleeve that gives the rifle a cleaner profile and a bit of extra protection while keeping the weight right around three pounds.
The heart of it is a simple break action single shot chambered in .22 LR, which is exactly what you want in a gun built for small game, pest duty, and teaching new folks the fundamentals. One round, one trigger press, no fuss. The wire steel stock carries an integrated shell holder with 12 rounds of backup ammo, and the folding buttplate tucks in tight for storage. M1 carbine style sights come standard, with an adjustable rear aperture that's genuinely usable out of the box, and a 4 inch quad Picatinny rail up front gives you room for a light, small optic, or a vertical grip if you want a more traditional hold.

This is where the TDX shines. In addition to folding in half like the standard Little Badger, a thumbscrew on the receiver lets you separate the rifle into two pieces without tools, and the halves nest together into a bundle around 17 inches long. It stows inside the included screw-top carry tube for protection in a pack or vehicle.
It is a single shot break action. The 12+1 you'll see in some listings refers to the shell holder built into the wire stock, which keeps 12 spare rounds of .22 LR on the rifle plus one in the chamber. So you have quick access to ammo, but you load one round at a time.
It comes ready to shoot with M1 carbine style sights, including a protected front post and an adjustable rear aperture with windage and elevation adjustment. They're better than what you'd expect on a minimalist rifle like this. If you want more precision, the rail up front will accept a compact red dot or similar optic.
