Some guns earn their spot in the safe by being useful. The Henry Axe earns it by being useful and a flat-out good time. This X Model version takes the original Axe concept, a compact .410 lever gun with a distinctive axe handle grip instead of a buttstock, and dresses it in weather-resistant black synthetic furniture with modern mounting options. At 26.4 inches overall and 5.75 pounds, it stows in a truck, a tractor, a pack, or behind the seat of a UTV without a second thought.
The standard Axe wears walnut, but the X Model is built for people who want to hang gear on their gun. There's a Picatinny rail section at the 6 o'clock position on the forend for a light, M-LOK slots at 3 and 9 o'clock, sling swivel studs, and a bright fiber optic front bead that picks up fast in low light. The receiver is drilled and tapped for a Weaver 63B mount if you want an optic up top. The muzzle is threaded for Invector-style choke tubes and ships with a full choke installed, so you can tighten or open up your patterns depending on the job.
Feeding is where this little Henry shines. It holds five 2.5 inch .410 shells in the tube magazine, and the side loading gate lets you top off as you go without pulling the mag tube. The large loop lever cycles smoothly even with gloves on, and .410 recoil out of a nearly six pound gun is mild enough that new and smaller-framed folks can run it all afternoon. Note that it's built for 2.5 inch shells only, so leave the 3 inch magnums on the shelf.
Pest control around the property, snake duty on the trailhead, breaking clays off the tailgate, or just sending birdshot at cans until the ammo box runs dry, this thing covers a lot of ground. Blued steel, Henry build quality, and a design you won't find anywhere else make it one of the more entertaining firearms in the case.
It's chambered for 2.5 inch .410 bore shells only, and the tube magazine holds five of them. Do not run 3 inch shells through this gun. Between birdshot, buckshot, and slug loads in 2.5 inch, there's still plenty of variety to cover pest control, plinking, and defensive use.
The standard Axe wears American walnut furniture, while the X Model swaps in black synthetic furniture with a Picatinny rail on the bottom of the forend, M-LOK slots on the sides, and sling swivel studs. The X Model also upgrades the front sight from a brass bead to a fiber optic bead. Mechanically they're the same gun: same 15.14 inch barrel, 5-round capacity, and side loading gate.
Yes. The receiver comes drilled and tapped and accepts a Weaver 63B scope base, so a red dot is a straightforward add. Most owners keep it simple with the fiber optic front bead, which is quick to pick up at the close ranges this gun is built for.
You can. The muzzle is internally threaded for Invector-style choke tubes, and a full choke comes installed from the factory. That means you can screw in a more open tube for spreading patterns up close or keep the full choke for tighter patterns on pests and small game at longer distances.
