Yes. Like any revolver chambered in .357 Magnum, the Professional III also runs .38 Special, including +P loads. That makes it easy to practice with mild, affordable .38s and load up magnums when you want the extra punch.
It comes in around 25 ounces, which is a good half pound or more lighter than most all-steel service revolvers with similar barrel lengths, like a GP100 or 686. Charter keeps weight down with a lighter grip and trigger guard assembly while the barrel, frame, and cylinder stay stainless steel. The result is a magnum you can carry all day without it dragging on your belt.
The rear sight is adjustable, so you can dial in your point of impact for different loads. Up front you get a green LitePipe sight that gathers ambient light and stands out fast against most backgrounds, which is a big step up from a plain ramped blade.
It works well for both. The 4.2 inch barrel gives you a longer sight radius and better velocity for home defense, while the roughly 25 ounce weight keeps it practical for belt carry with a good holster.
