Description

The Double Dog is Charter Arms answering a question a lot of revolver folks have been asking for years: why should one gun be locked into one caliber? This model combines the company's proven Mag Pug and Pit Bull designs into a single stainless steel package. You get a 5-shot cylinder chambered for .357 Magnum and .38 Special, plus a second 9mm cylinder in the box. Swapping between them takes nothing more than removing a single crane screw, and Charter even tosses in extra crane screw washers so you're covered down the road. Both cylinders have their calibers laser engraved right on them, so there's never a question about which one is installed.

Why the Double Dog's 9mm Cylinder Is a Big Deal

Most 9mm revolvers force you to fiddle with moon clips. Not this one. The 9mm cylinder borrows the Pit Bull's spring-loaded extraction system, which grabs rimless cases without any clips at all. Load it like any other wheelgun, shoot, and eject. With 9mm being one of the most affordable and available centerfire rounds out there, that second cylinder turns range day into a much cheaper habit while keeping full-power .357 on tap when it counts.

Built to Tame Magnum Recoil

The 4.2 inch barrel is ported and dressed up with diamond cut styling, venting gas upward to fight muzzle rise on stout magnum loads. Combine that with the sleek, hand-filling walnut grip and a carry-friendly weight in the mid 20 ounce range, and follow-up shots come back on target quicker than you'd expect from a 5-shot revolver. Adjustable sights let you dial in your preferred load, and the transfer bar safety means the hammer can't reach a primer unless the trigger is fully pulled.

An American-Made Convertible Wheelgun

Charter Arms builds these in the USA with a one-piece frame, and the single/double action trigger gives you options for deliberate target work or quick defensive shooting. For a trail gun, nightstand revolver, or an all-around shooter that eats three different cartridges, the Double Dog earns its spot in the safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Double Dog's 9mm cylinder require moon clips?

No, and that's one of its best features. The 9mm cylinder uses the extraction system from Charter's Pit Bull line, which holds and ejects rimless 9mm cases on its own. You just load rounds directly into the charge holes like any other revolver.

How hard is it to swap cylinders on the Charter Arms Double Dog?

It's a quick job you can do at the range with a screwdriver. Removing one crane screw lets you pull the .357 cylinder assembly and drop in the 9mm one. Charter includes spare crane screw washers with the gun, and both cylinders are laser engraved with their caliber so you always know which is installed.

Can I shoot .38 Special through this revolver?

Yes. With the .357 Magnum cylinder installed, you can run both .357 Magnum and .38 Special, including +P loads. That gives you a soft-shooting practice option and a full-power defensive option from the same cylinder, plus 9mm when you swap over.

What does the barrel porting on the Double Dog do?

The ports vent gas upward at the muzzle, which pushes back against muzzle flip during recoil. With full-house .357 Magnum loads in a mid-20-ounce revolver, that makes a noticeable difference in how fast you get back on target. Paired with the hand-filling walnut grip, it keeps the gun controllable through quick strings of fire.
