Yes. Like any revolver chambered in .357 Magnum, the Boomer will also fire .38 Special, including standard pressure loads. That's a big plus for practice, since .38 Special is softer shooting and easier on the wallet, while you can still load full power .357 Magnum for carry.
The Boomer uses a trenched sighting channel cut into the top strap instead of traditional sights, so there's nothing to snag on the draw. You look down the channel and point-shoot, which is exactly what this revolver was built for at close defensive distances. Plan on some range time to get comfortable with it, and it becomes very natural.
The 2 inch tapered barrel has ports cut into the top that vent gases upward when you fire. That downward counterforce reduces muzzle flip, which makes a noticeable difference with .357 Magnum in a gun this small and helps you get back on target faster. The trade-off is a bit more noise and flash, which is typical of any ported handgun.
