Sporting clays guns with real wood and an adjustable comb usually come with a price tag that makes you wince. The Charles Daly 601 DPS takes a different route. It runs a proven gas-operated action with a rotary bolt that cycles both 2.75" and 3" shells, and the receiver is machined from solid aluminum bar stock, which keeps weight manageable without giving up strength. The 30" steel barrel wears a vent rib and a fiber optic front sight, giving you the long sighting plane that helps smooth out your swing on crossing targets.
The checkered walnut stock features an adjustable comb, and that is a bigger deal than a lot of folks realize. Raising or lowering the comb lets you line your eye up with the rib properly, so the gun shoots where you look instead of where it happens to point. Getting that kind of fit adjustment on a semi-auto at this level is a genuine bonus, and the checkered walnut forend rounds out a gun that looks the part at the club. The gloss black finish on the barrel and receiver cleans up nicely after a dusty day on the course.
Charles Daly ships the 601 DPS with five choke tubes: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. The threading follows the common Beretta/Benelli Mobil pattern, so aftermarket and extended tubes are easy to find if you want to expand your setup later. That range covers everything from close station-eight style targets to stretched-out report pairs.
This one makes the most sense for anyone getting serious about sporting clays, trap, or skeet without draining the gun fund, and the soft-cycling gas system makes long practice sessions a lot more pleasant than a fixed-breech gun. The tube magazine and manual thumb safety keep operation simple and familiar. Load it, mount it, and go break clays.

The gas-operated rotary bolt system is designed to run both 2.75" and 3" shells. Like most gas guns, it benefits from a short break-in period, so run a few boxes of standard loads through it first before switching to the lightest target ammo. Once broken in and kept reasonably clean, it cycles typical clays loads without fuss.
The comb on the walnut stock can be raised or lowered to change where your eye sits relative to the rib. Proper comb height means the gun patterns where you are looking, which translates directly into more broken clays. It is a feature usually reserved for pricier competition guns, so having it on the 601 DPS is a real advantage.
It handles all three well. The 30" barrel gives you a long, steady sighting plane suited to trap and longer sporting presentations, while the included Cylinder and Improved Cylinder chokes cover skeet distances nicely. The soft-shooting gas action also keeps fatigue down over a full day of high-volume shooting.
