There's something satisfying about hearing steel ring out when your shot lands, and the Champion Rimfire Gong Popper Target delivers that feedback every time. This is a standing steel gong built specifically for .22 caliber rimfire practice, finished in high-visibility orange so it stands out against dirt, grass, or a backyard berm. When you connect, the popper tips back and rights itself, keeping you in the rhythm of your string without walking downrange to reset anything.
The whole target is made from solid steel, so it holds its shape round after round when you stick to what it's rated for. It's designed to work with .22 caliber rimfire cartridges using soft lead nose bullets, which is the sweet spot for a target this size. Keep your ammo and your distance sensible and this thing will give you a lot of trigger time. The bright orange finish does a lot of the heavy lifting too, making the gong easy to pick up in your sights at plinking distances.
Setup is about as simple as it gets. The base drives into the dirt using four 6-inch ground stakes, which keep the target planted and steady while you shoot. The whole unit measures roughly 12.5 inches long by 4.25 inches wide, so it's compact enough to toss in a range bag or the bed of a truck and light at just over three pounds. There's some assembly involved, but nothing that'll eat into your shooting time.
This one is a great pick for newer shooters learning the fundamentals and for anyone who just wants a fun, reactive target for a lazy afternoon of .22 plinking. Kids tend to love the instant reaction of steel that pops back up, and it holds up well as an all-experience-level target the whole family can enjoy.
This target is built for .22 caliber rimfire cartridges using soft lead nose bullets. Sticking to standard .22 LR and similar rimfire loads keeps the steel in good shape and gives you consistent pop-back action. It is not rated for centerfire rounds or high-velocity jacketed bullets.
When your bullet connects, the target tips back and swings right back to its upright position on its own. That means you get instant visual feedback and can keep shooting your string without walking downrange to set anything back up. It's a big part of why reactive steel like this is more fun than paper.
The base drives into the ground with four included 6-inch stakes, which keep it planted and stable while you shoot. Setup takes just a few minutes and there's some light assembly involved, but nothing complicated. Pick firm ground for the steadiest results.
It's a great fit for all experience levels, and the reactive pop-back design makes it especially fun for newer shooters and kids getting their first trigger time. The bright orange finish is easy to see downrange, so callouts and hits are simple to track. Just keep it to .22 rimfire and reasonable distances.
