Description

L.E. Wilson has been building case trimmers since 1936, and this one carries that same reputation. What sets the Wilson design apart is how it holds the brass. Instead of a pilot that rides inside the case neck, each case sits in a caliber-specific case holder that mimics the geometry of a rifle chamber. The case is supported by its own body taper, so every cut comes out square and concentric, pull after pull. If you reload for precision, that consistency is exactly what keeps your loads uniform.

This is the CTS-STDT, which is the trimmer body only fitted with the standard fixed stop. You set your trim length with the stop screw, and once it's dialed, it repeats cleanly through a whole batch of brass. On the standard trimmer a full turn of adjustment equals .062 inches, so getting to your target length off a reloading manual or case gage is straightforward. It comes equipped with the titanium nitride coated cutter, which runs harder and holds its edge longer than the standard steel cutter, meaning cleaner cuts and fewer touch-ups over time.

What the CTS-STDT Covers

This trimmer handles cases from .17 caliber all the way up to .45 caliber, which covers the overwhelming majority of common rifle and handgun brass. Worth noting: the trimmer body is the heart of the system, but the case holders are caliber-specific and sold separately, so you'll want to grab the right holder for whatever you're loading.

Setting Up Your Wilson Case Trimmer

For the smoothest operation, the trimmer works best mounted in a bench vise or set up on the L.E. Wilson Trimmer Stand with the case holder clamp, both sold separately. Beyond basic length trimming, the Wilson platform can also handle inside neck reaming, military crimp removal, and case mouth deburring when you add the appropriate cutters. It's a tool that grows with your bench and tends to outlast just about everything else in the reloading room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the CTS-STDT case trimmer come with case holders?

No, this is the trimmer body only with the standard stop and TiN cutter. Case holders are caliber-specific and sold separately, so you'll need to add the correct holder for whatever brass you're trimming. Picking up holders for each cartridge you load keeps the system working across your whole bench.

What's the difference between the TiN cutter and the standard cutter?

The TiN cutter is coated in titanium nitride, which is harder than bare steel and holds a sharp edge noticeably longer. That translates to cleaner, squarer cuts and fewer replacements down the road. It's the same proven Wilson cutter geometry, just with a more durable surface.

What calibers will the L.E. Wilson case trimmer handle?

This trimmer covers cases from .17 caliber up through .45 caliber, which takes care of most common rifle and handgun brass. Each caliber needs its own matching case holder. For reference, .50 BMG requires a dedicated 50 caliber trimmer setup rather than this model.

Do I need a stand to use this trimmer?

Not strictly, but it helps. The trimmer can be clamped in a bench vise for stable operation, or you can set it up on the L.E. Wilson Trimmer Stand with the case holder clamp for a dedicated station. Both the stand and clamp are sold separately.
