Western hunting has a way of exposing a rifle's weak points. Long shots across open country, weather that changes by the hour, and a lot of miles between the truck and the shot. The Browning X-Bolt 2 Western Hunter Special was put together with all of that in mind. It runs a 26 inch threaded matte stainless barrel that squeezes full velocity out of the .300 Winchester Magnum, and the stainless construction shrugs off rain, snow, and sweaty pack straps far better than a blued barrel ever will. A thread protector comes installed, so the muzzle stays clean until you are ready to add a brake or suppressor.
This is the second generation of Browning's most popular bolt gun, and the updates are more than cosmetic. The receiver adds extra bolt guidance surface for smoother, bind-free cycling, and the short 60 degree bolt lift keeps your hand clear of larger scopes. The DLX trigger uses a three-lever design that breaks clean with no creep or take-up, preset around 3.5 pounds and adjustable down to 3. Feeding comes from a detachable rotary magazine that centers each round for reliable chambering, giving you 3+1 capacity of serious big game medicine.
The black synthetic stock features an adjustable comb, which matters more than most people realize when you are running a big objective scope on a magnum rifle. Getting your eye lined up behind the glass consistently is half the battle for repeatable accuracy, and being able to dial in cheek height takes the guesswork out of it. The receiver comes drilled and tapped and uses Browning's X-Lock mounting system, which secures each base with four screws instead of the usual two.
The .300 Win Mag remains one of the most proven cartridges for elk, mule deer, and anything else that lives where shots stretch out. Pair that with the long barrel, the adjustable fit, and Browning's reputation for accurate factory barrels, and you have a rifle that is genuinely ready for mountain season the day you pick it up.
No, this model ships with a thread protector on the muzzle rather than a brake. The barrel is threaded, so you can add a brake or suppressor whenever you want. Until then, the protector keeps the threads clean and the profile trim.
Yes. The DLX trigger is a three-lever design that comes preset from the factory at roughly 3.5 pounds and adjusts down to about 3 pounds. It breaks clean with no creep or take-up, which is a big part of why the X-Bolt line has earned its accuracy reputation.
It does not come with sights or bases. The receiver is drilled and tapped for Browning's X-Lock mounting system, which anchors each base with four screws instead of two for a rock-solid hold. You will want to pick up X-Lock bases and rings sized for your scope.
It is one of the classic elk cartridges for good reason, delivering plenty of energy well past 400 yards. The 26 inch barrel takes full advantage of the case capacity for maximum velocity, and the adjustable comb helps you get a consistent cheek weld behind a magnified optic. For elk, mule deer, and moose country, it is a proven combination.
