Browning took the Citori action that has been earning its keep since 1973 and wrapped it in the kind of wood most of us only see at the fancy end of the gun counter. The Grade V/VI black walnut on this one carries an oil finish and fine cut checkering, paired with the rounded pistol grip and slim forearm that give the Lightning family its name. That round knob grip puts your hand in the same spot every mount, which matters a lot more than it sounds when a bird flushes at your feet.
This version pairs the 20 gauge frame with 26 inch barrels, and the result is a quick, lively gun that swings fast in tight cover and stays comfortable over a long day of walking. The 3 inch chambers give you room to run heavier loads when the situation calls for it, and the ivory front and mid-bead line up naturally down the vented rib. Yes, the 20 gauge Gran Lightning has 3 inch chambers, so it runs both 2.75 and 3 inch shells. That gives you the flexibility to shoot light target loads at the range and step up to heavier field loads when you need more payload.
Like every Citori since the line launched in 1973, it is built by the Miroku factory in Japan for Browning. Miroku's fit and finish work is highly regarded, and the tapered full width locking bolt design is known for tightening with use rather than loosening over time.
