Browning has been turning out the Buck Mark since 1985, and the Field Target SR keeps the same CNC-machined 7075-T6 aluminum frame the line is known for while adding a few upgrades aimed at people who want to shoot small groups and eventually run a can. This isn't a pistol dressed up for looks. Everything on it, from the barrel to the sights, is built around consistency shot after shot.
The 5.5 inch barrel is an all-steel, heavy profile piece that starts out around 0.90 inches in diameter before necking down to a 0.50 inch muzzle threaded 1/2×28 TPI. Every chamber is hand reamed, and the muzzle is target crowned, two details that go a long way toward the kind of tight groups this model is known for. A steel thread protector ships with the pistol so the threads stay clean until you decide to add a suppressor.
Instead of sitting on the slide, the sights are mounted to the frame, so your sight picture doesn't shift every time the pistol cycles. The Pro-Target rear sight adjusts in 16 clicks per revolution, finer than the 12-click standard you'll find on a lot of other .22 pistols, and it pairs with a fixed front sight for a clean sight picture right out of the box. Above that sits a full-length Picatinny rail running from front to rear, ready for a red dot or a small pistol scope whenever you want to add one.
The laminated cocobolo target grips fill the hand nicely and give you a stable platform to work the trigger without shifting your hold between shots. That trigger is gold plated and breaks clean, generally right around 3 pounds 12 ounces on test guns, with very little overtravel. Controls are all where you'd expect them on a Buck Mark, a manual thumb safety, a slide lock, and a magazine release in an M1911-style spot near the trigger guard, plus a magazine safety that keeps the pistol from firing without a mag seated.
At 38 ounces with a 10 inch overall length, the Field Target SR has enough weight up front to settle nicely on target, whether you're working through a box of ammo at the range, plinking cans in the backyard, or using it for small game and pest control where accurate shot placement matters most.
Yes, the barrel comes threaded 1/2×28 TPI from the factory, so you can thread on a suppressor without any gunsmithing. A steel thread protector is included to keep the threads clean when you're shooting without one.
The full-length Picatinny rail runs from front to rear and is mounted to the frame rather than the slide, so a red dot or small pistol scope holds its zero as the slide cycles. Most standard rimfire red dots and compact scopes will fit fine.
It's a crisp, single-action trigger that's gold plated on this model, and test guns have broken right around 3 pounds 12 ounces with very little overtravel. It's a noticeable step up from a lot of stock triggers on rimfire pistols in this class.
The pistol ships with one 10-round magazine, a thread protector for the muzzle, and a 13 inch soft pistol rug for storage and transport.
The heavy bull barrel and adjustable target sights make it a strong choice for target shooting and bullseye-style practice, but the low recoil of .22 LR also makes it a fun option for plinking, training new shooters, or small game and pest control work.
It comes with one 10-round magazine, and additional Buck Mark magazines are sold separately if you want a couple more on hand for range sessions.
