There are hunting rifles you buy to get the job done, and then there are rifles like the Browning X-Bolt Pro. Browning calls this one semi-custom for good reason. The 360-degree carbon fiber stock is genuinely light and rigid, with a noise-dampening foam core so it doesn't ring hollow when you bump it against a rock or tree limb. At 6.1 pounds bare, this is the kind of rifle you stop noticing on your shoulder about a mile into the climb, which is exactly the point.
The 6.5 PRC chambering is a natural match here. It pushes heavy, high-BC bullets fast and flat with recoil that stays civil, and the 24-inch fluted Sporter contour barrel gives the cartridge room to do its work. The barrel is free-floated, threaded M13x0.75, and topped with Browning's Sporter Recoil Hawg muzzle brake, which cuts felt recoil dramatically. A thread protector comes in the box if you'd rather run the muzzle clean. The whole barreled action wears a non-reflective matte blued finish that won't flash sunlight at a wary bull two ridges away.
The action is where X-Bolt fans will feel at home. The spiral-fluted bolt cycles with a short 60-degree lift, feeding from a 3+1 detachable rotary magazine that centers cartridges for smooth chambering. The adjustable Feather trigger breaks clean with no takeup to speak of, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for Browning's X-Lock four-screw scope mount system, so your glass stays put through recoil and rough travel. An Inflex recoil pad rounds things out, pulling the comb down and away from your cheek on the shot.
There are no sights on board, so plan on quality glass and X-Lock compatible mounts. Pair it with a solid 3-15x or 4-18x scope and good factory match or hunting ammo, and this rifle is ready for antelope flats, elk timber, and everything between. This blued version was a limited production run, so if it fits your build plans, it's worth grabbing while you can find one.
No, this rifle ships without iron sights or optics. The receiver is drilled and tapped for Browning's X-Lock scope mount system, which uses four screws per base instead of the usual two for a more secure hold. Plan on picking up X-Lock compatible bases and rings along with your scope.
Browning rates the Sporter Recoil Hawg at up to 76 percent felt recoil reduction, and on a 6.1 pound rifle that makes a real difference. The 6.5 PRC is already a manageable cartridge, so with the brake installed it shoots noticeably softer than you'd expect from a lightweight mountain gun. A thread protector is included if you prefer to shoot without it.
Yes, this platform has a strong reputation for accuracy with factory ammo, and owners commonly report sub-MOA groups with quality hunting loads. The free-floated, fluted barrel and 1:7 twist stabilize the heavy 140 to 147 grain bullets the 6.5 PRC was built around. Keep in mind it has a slim sporter barrel, so let it cool between strings if you're stretching sessions at the range.
It uses Browning's adjustable Feather trigger, a three-lever design known for a crisp break with minimal creep and overtravel. Pull weight can be adjusted to suit your preference. Combined with the short 60-degree bolt throw, it makes for a fast, clean-handling action in the field.
