Browning likes to say the action wears in, not out, and after five decades of Citoris pounding through dove fields, duck blinds, and clays courses, that reputation has been earned the hard way. The Hunter Grade II takes that proven action and dresses it up properly, with a silver nitride receiver finished with gold game scene enhancement and Grade II/III American walnut wearing a smooth satin finish that shrugs off field wear better than a high gloss ever will.
The 28-inch blued barrels are chambered for 3-inch shells and regulated for a 50/50 point of impact, which is exactly what you want on flushing birds and crossing shots. A quarter-inch rib and silver bead front sight keep your eye moving to the target, while the single selective trigger with gold-plated Inertia design gives you a clean, consistent break on both barrels. The tang-mounted safety doubles as your barrel selector, so switching chokes on the fly is as simple as a thumb flick. Three flush Invector-Plus tubes come in the box, Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder, covering everything from tight late-season roosters to close-flushing quail.
At 7 pounds 12 ounces with a 14 1/4-inch length of pull, this gun carries the weight between your hands where an over/under should. That heft smooths out your swing and soaks up recoil, and the Inflex pad takes care of the rest when you're running heavier loads. Overall length comes in at 45 inches, compact enough to move through thick cover without hanging up.
Plenty of over/unders are either too plain to love or too fancy to hunt. The Citori Hunter Grade II splits the difference, giving you wood and metalwork worth showing off on a gun you won't feel guilty dragging through a briar patch. It's the kind of shotgun that gets handed down, not traded in.
It ships with three flush-fit Invector-Plus tubes: Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder. That trio covers most upland and general hunting situations right out of the box. Since the barrels use the Invector-Plus system, you can also add extended or specialty tubes down the road without any fitting work.
Absolutely. While the 50/50 point of impact and 28-inch barrels are set up with field shooting in mind, this gun swings smoothly on sporting clays and skeet too. At 7 pounds 12 ounces it has enough weight to stay steady through a full round without beating you up.
The big differences are cosmetic. The Grade II gets a silver nitride finish on the receiver with gold enhancement and upgraded Grade II/III American walnut, while the Grade I wears a gloss blued receiver and Grade I wood. Mechanically they share the same proven Citori action, trigger, and choke system.
Like every Citori since the line launched in 1973, it's built by the Miroku Corporation in Japan for Browning. Miroku's fit and finish is a big part of why Citoris have such a strong reputation for durability. These actions are known for lasting through decades of heavy use.
