Description

John Browning designed both the 1911 and the .380 ACP cartridge, so putting the two together makes a lot of sense. The 1911-380 Black Label is built at 85 percent the size of a Government Model .45, which lands it in a sweet spot: big enough to get your whole hand on the grip and shoot with real control, yet slim and light enough at roughly 17.5 ounces unloaded to carry all day. Compared to the pocket-sized .380s that dominate this caliber, the difference at the range is night and day.

Why the 1911-380 Shoots So Soft

Most .380 pistols use a straight blowback action, which means stiff recoil springs and a surprising amount of snap. Browning went with a locked-breech, recoil-operated system instead, the same basic setup as a full-size 1911. That translates to a slide you can rack without a fight and recoil that feels closer to a rimfire than a defensive pistol. The 4.25 inch target-crowned barrel also squeezes more velocity out of the cartridge and stretches the sight radius to 5-3/8 inches, which helps accuracy across the board.

Real 1911 Controls, Familiar Manual of Arms

If you already run a 1911, everything here will feel like home. You get a crisp single-action trigger, an extended ambidextrous thumb safety, a beavertail grip safety with memory bump, a skeletonized hammer, and an extended slide release. The composite frame keeps weight down while the machined steel slide wears a matte black finish with grip serrations. Low-profile fixed combat sights keep the top end snag-free for carry. Takedown follows the standard 1911 routine, so cleaning is nothing new.

Who the Black Label 1911-380 Fits Best

This one earns its keep with a wide range of folks: anyone with smaller hands, recoil-sensitive shooters, new gun owners learning the semi-auto platform, and 1911 fans who want a fun, inexpensive-to-feed range companion that doubles as a legitimate carry gun. It ships with one 8-round steel magazine and an ABS case, ready for the range on day one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Browning 1911-380 easy to rack for people with weaker hands?

Yes, and that is one of its biggest selling points. Because it uses a locked-breech action instead of the blowback design found on most .380 pistols, the recoil spring is much lighter and the slide takes noticeably less effort to work. That makes it a popular pick for older shooters and anyone with reduced hand strength.

Is the 1911-380 Black Label a good size for concealed carry?

It carries very well. At 85 percent the size of a standard 1911 and around 17.5 ounces unloaded, it is slim, flat, and light enough for waistband carry while still giving you a full grip. You get the concealability of a compact with far better shootability than the tiny pocket .380s.

Does the Browning 1911-380 field strip like a regular 1911?

It does. Disassembly follows the same familiar routine as a full-size 1911, so if you have taken one apart before, this will be second nature. Even if you are new to the platform, it is a straightforward process to learn for routine cleaning.

How many magazines come with this model, and what capacity are they?

This model ships with one steel-body 8-round magazine, giving you an 8+1 total capacity. Spare magazines are available from Browning if you want a few extras for the range or carry rotation.
